2XKOlatest title from League of Legends developer Riot Games, is reportedly experiencing consistent screen tearing on consoles. This problem has already caused extensive complaints on the Internet and even one patch fix with many votes 2XKO players say they are quitting the game until it is fixed.
Screen tearing is a common visual flaw in video games caused by displaying parts of multiple frames at once, resulting in a visible horizontal split across the screen. To players, the effect may appear as if the top and bottom halves of the image are misaligned at times, and tears may appear especially during fast camera movements. Basically, the problem occurs when a new frame is presented while the display is in the middle of scanning the previous one, causing the screen to contain parts of multiple frames at once. It's especially common when the game's frame rate doesn't exactly match the display's refresh rate (often when running faster than the refresh rate with V-Sync turned off), but it can happen at any frame rate if images are presented mid-scan. Games often generate frames at inconsistent rates, increasing the likelihood of sync issues leading to screen tearing.
All 2XKO Characters (and How to Unlock Them)
Here's how to unlock all the fighters in Riot Games 2XKO, along with a quick look at each champion's attacks and playstyle.
2XKO has serious screen tearing issues
Riot's free-to-play team-based combat game appears to be the latest example of widespread screen tearing. Shortly after 2XKO was released on January 20th, players began reporting frequent horizontal tearing, especially on high refresh rate displays. Several community threads suggest that the problem is most common on 120Hz screens, but not exclusive to them.
2XKO screen tearing can reportedly be mitigated on Xbox with some limitations
According to a recent report by Reddit user Neoak, it is currently possible to mitigate screen tearing in the console version 2XKOalbeit only when playing on Xbox, while PS5 owners are out of luck. A user claims that enabling 120Hz output at the console's system level and variable refresh rate (VRR) support through display settings can significantly reduce visible tearing. This approach requires a VRR compatible monitor or display. It works by taking advantage of how the Xbox handles high refresh rate output at a system level, even in games that don't explicitly advertise 120Hz compatibility, reducing frame times and masking the sync issues that often cause screen tearing.
However, Neoak's method is not a guaranteed solution. It depends on compatible hardware, may involve compromises in display bandwidth, and may not necessarily completely eliminate tearing. In addition, from 2XKO supposedly running without vertical sync (V-Sync) to reduce input latency, the underlying problem remains at the software level. A proper fix will likely require an official patch from Riot, which players are hoping will arrive before then 2XKO Season 1 is still fresh as many are now putting off playing the game until the screen tearing issues are fully resolved.
Riot has yet to officially confirm the 2XKO screen tearing
Riot Games has yet to formally acknowledge this 2XKO screen tearing reports in any capacity. Developer he did take ranked mode offline on the weekend of January 24-25, citing the need to work on a few “game-affecting bugs.” Whether screen tearing is among them remains to be seen. While casual lobbies were supposed to remain open during the maintenance period, social media reports from players suggest that this was not the case, at least not consistently. This hindered progress 2XKO's ongoing Caitlyn Champion Recruitment Event, though players can still earn XP by completing the game's tutorial missions.
