This list may contain spoilers for both the manga and the anime adaptation of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
As the Winter 2026 anime season approaches, the content of the highly anticipated second season Frieren: Beyond Journey's End remain one of the biggest topics on fans' lips. The titular Frieren, Fern and Stark will continue their difficult journey towards Aureola at the northern end of the continent, where even more terrifying enemies await. Having finally reached the rank of first-class mage, Fern is now more prepared than ever for what lies ahead, while the ever-lovable Stark continues to hone his power and Frieren remains as unflappable as ever. The first season Frieren was nominated for anime of the year, and for good reason, as countless viewers quickly became obsessed with the title's cast and pacing. The show is not a continuous event; instead, it mixes beautifully animated battle sequences with peaceful character-driven scenes that often manage to tug at the heartstrings.

series
A massively powerful elven mage who is twice Frieren's age
- Manga Debut: Chapter 43
- Anime Debut: Episode 20
The series didn't get much screen time during Frieren's first season, but quickly became a fan favorite for its laissez-faire attitude and incredible control over magic. Having lived an incredibly long life and knowing almost every spell in existence, it quickly became apparent that Serie was stronger than Frieren in many ways, though her true power had yet to fully manifest itself. Understandably, many are hoping to see the golden-haired elf get more screen time in season two. The fact that she trained Frierene's mentor, Flamm, means that her story could affect the protagonist more than some may realize.
In the manga series, Serie plays a more prominent role during the Foundation Festival Arc, which likely won't be adapted until the show's third season. However, more details about the elf are provided during the Divine Revolt and Golden Land Arcs, meaning viewers should be on the lookout when Season 2 premieres in January. One particular battle between Seria and new adversary Macht is sure to impress on the small screen.
Thinking
A neat first class mage with surprising ties to the villain
- Manga Debut: Chapter 37
- Anime Debut: 18th episode
Denken, who appeared in the last 10 episodes of Season 1, was the oldest of them, at nearly 80 years old, to decide to take the First Class Mage exam. His reasons for this will be fully explained in the second season, as will his connection to Macht, the main antagonist who first appears in the anime as part of the Golden Land Arc.
Frieren: The 13 Most Powerful Mages, Ranked
The world of magic in Frieren is dominated by these individuals who overcome their opponents in various ways.
While many people who tuned into the anime series weren't immediately impressed with Denken, the full reveal of his backstory can quickly make him one of the most compelling characters in the series. Strict at first and boasting an incredible wit, he quickly becomes important to the larger plot. His ability to conjure tornadoes, hellfire, and light arrows can also be a great asset against the demons that enter the scene this time around.
Solitaire
A wondrous demon who quickly becomes Frieren's #1 enemy
Sometimes the demons that seem the least threatening at first glance are the most dangerous. Solitär, a larger demon to debut in the anime Frieren Season 2 has an insatiable desire to learn more about living things, with a special interest in humans, whom he also respects and fears. Her small stature and disarming smile lead some to underestimate her, when in reality she is comparable in power to the Seven Sages of Doom.
Appearing mostly in the Golden Land arc, Solitär quickly becomes Frieren's main helper, claiming the demon to be one of the most dangerous due to its ability to manipulate people. Despite having spent so much time studying human emotions and psychology, Solitär knows that she herself is incapable of feeling anything like a demon, which makes her all the more terrifying. Fern, Stark and Frieren will have their hands full trying to bring this sweet devil down.
Power
A new main antagonist with a golden touch
A new season means a new villain, and Macht's cold attitude, blank stare, and unpredictability make him one of the scariest in the series so far. Considered the most powerful member of the Demon King's Seven Sages of Destruction, Macht has the power to turn anything into gold, making the material seemingly indestructible. The demon is also able to use human magic, which is rare for demons. In fact, his dealings with humans in Season 2 will be a big story since he once swore allegiance to a feudal lord.
A new trailer for Frieren Season 2 confirms an important detail
The ending theme for Frieren Season 2 has been confirmed.
A good villain is the key to many successful media and Macht performances FrierenNext season will definitely be a highlight. Despite his fearsome appearance, his character is wildly multifaceted. Although he is capable of unspeakable cruelty, not all of his time among humans has been negative, as his actions have actually saved the occasional life as well. With that being said, plenty of characters will be stepping into the ring with him as Season 2 progresses.
Himmel
Catalyst for Frieren's Understanding of Emotions (Gone But Never Forgotten)
- Manga Debut: Chapter 1
- Anime Debut: Episode 1
Sure, Himmel may have died decades ago, but the swordsman remains a shining beacon Frieren Season 2. During the first season, flashbacks to Frierene's journey alongside Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen emphasized how much the elf had changed and how much the loss of the blue-haired hero affected the often straightforward protagonist. After Himmel's death from old age, Frieren promised to spend more time with people and get to know them better, and she felt like she wasted some of her time with the Hero Party. Her efforts will continue with each new episode fans will receive throughout 2026 and beyond.
Himmel may not be the main focus of Season 2, but his appearance throughout will no doubt be impressive as his very existence serves to propel Frieren forward and continues to inspire her to get in touch with her own emotions and banish her loneliness. Without Himmel, the elf would never have taken Fern as her apprentice, nor would she have allowed Eisen to force Stark into the party as a vanguard. Years after his death, Himmel the hero will continue to shine.
Frieren
This formidable elven mage still has a lot to learn
- Manga Debut: Chapter 1
- Anime Debut: Episode 1
Sometimes background characters steal the spotlight from the chosen protagonist, but not in this series. From the first episode, Frierene's personality stole the hearts of viewers, and her consistently calm demeanor managed to be equal parts comical and formidable. Elf's unimaginably long life forced viewers to confront the idea of what it would be like to watch those you care for grow old and die over and over again, and what it would be like to see the world change and evolve in ways that once seemed impossible.
Frieren: How time breeds contentment
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End deals with the passage of time, and thus complacency is the main undercurrent of Frieren's journey.
During Season 1, Frieren gave up her chosen solitude, took on a young human apprentice, Fern, and embarked on a journey to collect spells and revisit places from her past. This was a huge change for the silver haired mage who finally decided to keep his word to Himmel and decided to learn more about humans. In Season 2, Frieren will continue to evolve emotionally as her bonds with her group deepen and her promise brings both new benefits and new hardships.
