As an adoptive father of Dexter Harry, he always knew that in Dexter he would be darkness, since he saved a young boy from a shipping container filled with the blood of his mother. Dexter's killing animals realized Harry that one day people would be the next, so Harry's code helped to ensure that Dexter killed only criminals and never caught up. Harry was the first to know about Dexter's dark passengers and even gave the blessing of killing, but when he saw it would happen first hand, Harry made Harry his life.

Brian Moser was the first to find out who Dexter really was. After all, Brian was Dexter's relative. Brian carefully followed his brother and discovered his secrets as a serial killer, and so Brian evoked to start a game for Dexter to find out the truth about his past and brother. Brian tried to get Dexter to join him as a brothers of birth from blood and dependent on blood relief, but Dexter decided to kill his only living relative blood to save his adopted sister and maintain the code.

James Doakes has always been suspected of Dexter. Doakes was a sergeant and knew there was something Dexter was hiding, but it was much worse than he could imagine. Doakes found that Dexter was a serial killer after he found blood slipping in his apartment and then discovered Dextera with limbs in waste bags. Despite the knowledge of truth, doakes would not do alive for Dexter's obsessed Stalker, who has always found the truth.

Lila West was the first woman to show Dexter that it was okay to have a dark passenger. Lila, however, did not know that this dark passenger was a serial murderer, but although she found that after sexual throwing with what she considered a drug addict in recovery at the meeting at the meeting, she was still persecuting him.
