Steam prosper because we are all “accumulating”, says an analyst

If you read it, there is a high chance that you have an pending species, whether it's on the console or on the PC. We are all guilty of buying a game, placing on the shelf or downloading it into our systems, just for something else that would come to it and let us forget it completely. Personally, most of my steam library is a unprecedented game on which I still swear, at some point I will get. I promise you one day 1000xresist.

It would be a bit embarrassing, but the fact that I'm not the only one feel a little better. In fact, this custom is to buy games just to never play, apparently a big reason why developers and publishers are so excited that they release their games on Steam, according to industrial analyst Chris Zukowski.

Steam prosper because we are all “accumulating”, says an analyst

In a recent blog post (thanks to Gamesradar) Zukowski claims that one of the best things about Steam and his players is that it is full of people who “buy games that will not play”. Zukowski believes that this fact gives Steam a foot up when it comes to a time competition with other services such as Netflix and Fortnite, because Steam is full of “super die hard fans” that only buys games for Funsies.

“Knowing that steam players are piles, explains why you give them 30%: you get access to a bunch of drunken sailors who spend money unsatisfactory.”

As a result, Zukowski believes that developers should not be too nervous to relax games on the platform, because it is very possible that “most people are likely to buy your game and never play it”. In fact, Zukowski even quotes an article from 2023, claiming that an incredible 51.5 percent of the median library of Steam is not playing and I have never felt more in my life.

Zukowski even believes that this phenomenon is the reason why smaller India can get away with launching next to the biggest games of the year, because creating an interesting -looking games will make people bought it. A good example would be the peak, because it would start Smack Bang in the middle of Stellar Blade, Death Stranding 2 and Reach, but it is the most successful game that comes out of June. Yes, I bought a Peak and I didn't play it.
