Those who want to unlock one of the Romance options of Persona 5: The Phantom X will need to work a lot and focus on upgrading their Social Stats, like Knowledge, Kindness, and Proficiency. Most of the characters that players can increase their Synergy Rank with are just confidants (also called accomplices), but some of them can become Romanceable Characters.

6 Fastest Ways To Upgrade Characters In Persona 5: The Phantom X

This guide offers some insight into all currently available Romance options in Persona 5: The Phantom X along with all the requirements to romance each of them, all the exclusive rewards players can earn by reaching the Soulmate status, which gifts are better suited for each of them, and what places to visit in their outings.
All Romance Options In Persona 5: The Phantom X
The three characters available for romance in Persona 5: The Phantom X are Motoha Arai, Tomoko Noge, and Yaoling Li. Motoha is the first Persona user players meet besides Lufel, but strangely, it isn’t until later in the game that she becomes a romance option. The same can be said about Tomoko, but Yaoling Li becomes an early Romance option, and the Synergy Rank rewards she unlocks are quite good.
There are only a few romanceable characters in the current version of the game, but that might change in the future, and this guide will be updated with the new information when more romance options become available.
How To Romance Motoha Arai
To romance Motoha Arai, players need to complete the first Episode of the story and Kiuchi Palace and then complete the Side-Mission called ‘The Day The Pearl Flies!.’ After completing this Side Mission, the Batting Cages will become available, and a Synergy Bond with Motoha will be formed. Players need to reach a Synergy Rank of 15 to unlock the Romance option for Motoha, and to manage that, they will need to increase their Proficiency Level to at least 14.

One Persona 5: The Phantom X Feature Makes It the Odd One Out, But It’s Not All Bad
Persona 5: The Phantom X makes some less-than-ideal changes to a series staple, but its live-service elements could help improve matters over time.
Yaoling Yi prefers to meet in the Evening, so check the City Life for activities marked with her face, or check the Phone Messages for any invitation from Yaoling. Players should also keep in mind that gifts lose effectiveness after the first use, so repeating gifts is not the best way to increase Synergy. Ideally, they should go from the cheapest to the most expensive of gifts, but always try to give something new on each ‘date’ to receive the ‘first time‘ boost.
How To Romance Tomoko Noge
Tomoko Noge is the third and final romance interest that the players can conquer in Persona 5: The Phantom X, and her Synergy Bond becomes available after the Sub-Mission Part-Time Dreamer has been completed. Tomoko prefers quiet places, sweets, and to work part-time, so most of her Synergy Rank rewards are related to boosting the Part-Time Jobs City Life activities. To unlock all Synergy Ranks with her, players need to have a high level of Kindness, so think about raising that stat before prioritizing her bond.
These are the exclusive rewards unlocked after Tomoko becomes a Soulmate:
|
Rank 15 |
Soulmate Tomoko Avatar |
|
Rank 18 |
Whisper Emote |
|
Rank 20 |
To You, With Love Frame |
To boost Wonder’s Synergy Rank with Tomoko, players should prioritize giving her gifts that are considered ‘cute’ and ‘trendy,’ as her Bio implies she likes those things. But to be more specific, here’s a full list of Tomoko’s preferred gifts:
- Heart Ring – Found at the Jewelry Underground Market Store, requires 10 of Charm, and costs 88 K – Increases Synergy by 250 Points (125+125 for preferred first time gift).
- Uji Matcha Flan Set – Bought from the Supermarket in Underground Market (Shibuya) for 12000 Yen, Requires Kindness Level 13 – Increases Synergy by 56 (28 + 28for preferred first-time gift).
- Shichi-Kun Doll – Bought from the Convenience Store Central Street, Shibuya for 7800 Yen, can also be obtained from Shichi-Kun as a reward for his Quiz – Increases Synergy by 40 (20 + 20 for preferred first-time gift).
- Super Loud Alarm Clock – Purchased from the Discount Store on Central Street, costs 7000 – Increases Synergy by 36 (18 + 18 for preferred first-time gift).

Players can encounter Tomoko during after-school hours, and attending her outings will most of the time involve helping her deal with new Part-time jobs. Each of the outings to ‘Form Bonds‘ also grants 6000 Yen as a reward. Tomoko is also a great romance target for players who want to make money fast, since she unlocks several boosts for Part-Time Job City Life activities.
All Upcoming Romance/Synergy Options in P5X
P5X Global version release is a lot of steps behind its Japanese version, and some of the upcoming characters are already in the game, only that players cannot romance them or increase their synergy bonds. One of these future Synergy bonds is Ayaka Sakai, the girl with the guitar who hangs out in Shibuya Center all the time. Another one, a main character named Riko Tanemura who will make her debut soon (rumored to be out in August with version 2.0).
Then, we got Miyu Sahara (Puppet) a character already available in the game as a Phantom Idol, that might become available for synergy at a later date. Players also had a chance to interact with Minami Miyashita, but this is not a romanceable option for the moment, although she has an entire questline dedicated to her (‘Steel your Heart’) and is the Phantom Idol known as Marian. Finally, characters like Ichigo Shikano are way far in the release schedule, but might become available as a romance option in the future.
