2006 Scarface: The World is Yours could make it to modern platforms, perhaps through a re-release, remaster, or even a remake. Speculation has been swirling about this modest success in the mid-2000s since what appears to be a random early release on some digital stores. But this potential Scarface: The World is Yours retaliation raises many questions.
Scarface: The World is Yours launched to generally favorable reception and was favorably reviewed by critics at the time. More than this, Scar adaptations and quasi-sequels nurtured something of a cult following in the years following its release, and is now seen by many as a time capsule of gaming in the mid-2000s, when licensed adaptations lined the shelves. All in all, Montana's criminal sandbox game is vastly different from what gamers are familiar with today, which makes its re-emergence on Steam and the Epic Games Store all the more remarkable.
Scarface: The World Is Yours appears on Steam, Epic Games Store
As PC Gamer noted, Scarface: The World is Yours recently appeared on both Steam and the Epic Games Store as an upcoming release, albeit without a specific launch date. The Steam page describes it as “a re-release of the original classic third-person open-world action game.” It also states that this version will have an “optional HD graphics mode (DLC)” and will allow players to “experience the explosive return of Tony Montana in sharper detail than ever before.” The description goes on to say that the HD graphics mode may change and that “further details will be announced later.”
Of course, this isn't all that unusual—video game re-releases are a common occurrence—but there are a few unexpected details that raise this potential. Scarface: The World is Yours return more mysterious than expected. First, the respective Steam and EGS pages identify the game's publisher as EC Digital, a company with no previous releases or footprint of any kind in the gaming industry. EC Digital themselves made the announcement on Steam following the surprise appearance The world is yoursclaiming that a “technical issue” caused the game to go live on storefronts earlier than he intended. The statement sheds little light on the nature of the project itself, though it does mention third parties and “partners” involved in the alleged re-release.
Until more information emerges, it's hard to make heads or tails of the unexpected Scarface: The World is Yours revival. The mystery surrounding EC Digital, only deepened by its opaque statement on Steam, is the most confusing element of all: if EC Digital proves to be a real, officially sanctioned entity, it may help determine the truth behind Scar project.
