The development serves as a reminder that many of the Hollow Knight: SilksongSmaller mysteries will likely never be fully explained, making them all the more compelling.

Major Hollow Knight and HK: Silksong spoilers ahead.

Hollow Knight Silksong Herrah the Beast

The Weavers are a tribe of spider-like beings from Hollow Knight: Silksongthe land of Pharloom, created by the divine being Grandmother Silk. After discovering the truth of their origins, they rebelled and sealed their creator in a cradle atop the Citadel. Silksong The main character Hornet is a descendant of Grandmother Silk due to her mother being Herrah the Beast, the Weaver introduced in the original. Hollow Knight.

Hollow Knight: Silksong fans are divided on whether Herrah's head shape is a mask

However, Herrah looks nothing like the members of her tribe that were in the beginning Hollow Knight: Silksong Act 2. Reddit user Whenpigfly666 recently attempted to explain this discrepancy with what he described as a “crackpot” theory, but one that turned out to be interesting enough to spark a lively discussion of the lore among fans. At the center of the debate is the shape of Herrah's head, with fans divided on whether it represents an actual shell or just a mask.

The Hornet seems to have inherited the silhouette of her mother's head, but at the same time, making masks is an integral part of her Hollow Knight and Silksong's lore, meaning both positions are defensible. Games never explicitly state what is right.

Herrah's Body Shape is another of Silksong's lesser mysteries

Additionally, Whenpigfly666's theory does not attempt to explain the difference in body shapes between Herrah and the Weavers seen in Pharloom. Fans have identified several possible explanations for this discrepancy, not all of which are mutually exclusive. One, the original Hollow Knight strongly suggests that childbirth is a difficult process for the Weavers, which may have resulted in Herrah being bloated. The main problem with this theory is that access to red memory during Hollow Knight: Silksong Act 3 shows Herrah after giving birth, but without the big belly. It is unclear whether this discrepancy is a retcon or has a meaningful explanation.

Another possibility is that Herrah's body simply changed with age, as is common with living beings – fictional or otherwise. Finally, her Weaver Queen title alone could warrant a distinctive design, regardless of how Team Cherry might justify it in lore.
