Halo is arguably the most iconic Xbox franchise. Since Halo: Combat Evolved was released for the original Xbox in 2001, the thought of moving the franchise to the PlayStation would be unthinkable. However, with Halo: Campaign Evolved announced for the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC, it looks like that will no longer be true in the future.

Future Halo games will be on PlayStation

Halo Studios Community Director Brian Jarrard recently appeared on stage at the Halo World Championships and confirmed that “Halo is on PlayStation in the future.” According to Jarrard, this is a “huge deal” and the team is excited to welcome even more players into this “new era” of the franchise. While this decision is sure to be controversial, it's not entirely surprising given Xbox's recent approach. Earlier this month, for example, Xbox president Sarah Bond said that exclusives are “obsolete” for most people, hinting that Microsoft is likely to port even more exclusives to other platforms soon.

Several Xbox exclusives have been released on the PS5 recently Halo is just the latest game to follow this trend. Titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Gears of War: Reloadedand Forza Horizon 5 they launched on the platform and did well in sales there, which likely motivates Microsoft to continue with the current cross-platform approach.

Microsoft responds vaguely to Halo Campaign Evolved AI rumors

Being a multi-platform release is far from the only controversy involved Halo: Campaign Evolvedalthough. Jaime Griesemer, who worked as the original's level designer Halo: Combat Evolvedrecently criticized the remake. According to Griesemer, new developers are breaking Halo: Campaign Evolved for no reason by making several changes to the original design. He cited that in The Silent Cartographer, for example, players shouldn't take a Warthog to roll over Hunters, which is why rocks were placed in the way, and the remake changes that.

Despite the controversy, most players are excited to play Halo: Campaign Evolved in 2026. Halo: Campaign Evolved will have some exciting new features such as crossplay, 4-player support, three new prequel missions, newly recorded dialogues, an expanded arsenal of weapons, and much more. Hopefully the title will make a successful debut on PlayStation 5 and bring the iconic series to new fans.
