Being a boss in a game changes how everything works. Instead of following someone else's plan, players make the rules and decide what happens next. Power becomes the main goal. It could mean running a crime family, being a dictator, or ruling an army of monsters from deep underground.
However, being a boss gives players more than power. They can control people, money and cause chaos. For example in Tropico 6players manage a country and must satisfy citizens, soldiers and foreign powers. IN Evil Genius 2Every trap, scheme, and henchman serves a greater plan to take over the world. Even darker games like Carrion turn players into a threat themselves and let them crush anyone who dares stand in their way. Some of these games don't have the player as the boss in the traditional sense, but the basic idea remains the same: the players are the bad guys fighting the forces of good.
Evil Genius 2: World Domination
Become a criminal who will rule the world
IN Evil Genius 2: World dominationplayers do not get the hero role. Instead, they act as the mastermind behind every global criminal operation. The world sees chaos, theft and destruction, but it all starts on the player's table deep inside the hidden island base.
There are four different evil geniuses, each with their own personality and ultimate goals. Whether it's building a doomsday device or stealing from world powers, Genius manages the operation from start to finish. Being the boss of Evil Genius 2 it feels like managing a factory. Minions need motivation, gold supports research, and henchmen act as the player's right-hand man in special missions. Genius can even walk around the base and issue commands directly.
Dungeon Keeper Gold
Become a dungeon master in the new edition of the classic
IN Dungeon Keeper Goldthe idea of ”being the boss” is taken literally. Players literally play as the Dungeon Keeper, a sinister being who commands monsters, builds dark corridors and defends the glowing Dungeon Heart. Heroes invade the world from the surface, but the player is the one who sets traps, recruits demons, and decides how to crush them.
Unlike most fantasy games where players are heroes raiding evil dungeons, Dungeon Keeper Gold they reverse the roles so they are in charge. One of the coolest things is how the game celebrates being bad. The narrator encourages the players to be cruel, praising their torture chambers and clever traps.
Tropico 6
Step into the shoes of El Presidente
Tropico 6 hands control of the Caribbean nation to one person: El Presidente. He is the ruler of the island, its symbol and often a problem. Every law, trade agreement and infrastructure project passes through it. Although as a simulator, Tropico 6 has no traditional boss, players act as the political boss El Presidente who balances the happiness of citizens with personal wealth, sometimes ruling as a beloved leader and other times as a shameless dictator.
Citizens demand jobs, homes and fair wages, but foreign powers offer bribes, business opportunities or military support. So El Presidente has to choose between keeping the people happy and keeping the money flowing. Political factions are constantly at loggerheads, forcing difficult decisions that test loyalty. Elections can be rigged, speeches can influence voters and silence protests. Through it all, El Presidente remains in control, smiling from posters while plotting behind the scenes.
Gangsters: Organized Crime
Become a mob boss in a retro strategy title
- Year of publication: 1998
- Developer: Greenhouse creations
- Genres: Strategy
Gangsters: Organized Crime is a strategy game that takes the player back to a 1920s city filled with shady shops, sleaze shops and competitive mobs. Players find themselves in the shoes of a boss, managing their own crime family, starting with a small crew of hired guns and a vision to take over the entire city.
As a mob boss, players are given tasks for gang members such as who to shake down, which businesses to protect and which enemies to hit. Everything players do revolves around intimidation, bribes, and bullets. Players can still get this classic on GOG Galaxy.
Carrion
You are now a Monster
Carrion completely flips the horror script. Instead of fighting a monster, players are the monster themselves. This creature is basically a moving red mass of teeth and tendrils that works its way through a secret research facility. From the moment it escapes from the holding cell, the creature becomes the boss of the game world, forcing people to hide and turning their laboratories into hunting grounds.
The creature crawls, swings and slashes its way through the levels, devouring scientists and soldiers to grow stronger. He learns new abilities such as stealth cloaking, webbing, and possession, which allows him to turn enemies into puppets.

godfather 2, though it's sadly removed from Steam and hard to get hold of, it deserves a special place here for what it's done. The game allows players to take on the role of Mafia Don Michael Corleone, who builds an empire that spans across cities. The story starts small, but grows very quickly as territories expand, rockets multiply and rival families fall. Being a Don is more than just leading the shootouts; as players will manage the business, protect assets and decide who gets a share of the profits.
As Don, players can send their gang members to bomb a rival business, patrol a casino, or take out an enemy lieutenant. While the mob solves the tasks, the mob boss keeps an eye on the entire map using “Don's View”, which is essentially a top-down interface that shows the characteristics, loyalty and strength of the enemies. This feature is a combination of a crime simulator and a strategy board that gives a real sense of command. Players can even promote trusted lieutenants to capos and assign them their own territories.
