For some, playing with LEGO bricks was the best way to stretch their creative muscles. Then Minecraft changed all that for kids and adults when it was released in 2009, and now a lot of games act as a creative outlet. Minecraft it certainly wasn't the first game with construction mechanics, and it certainly won't be the last, but it really brought the genre to life.
Are there any games left in 2025 that allow players to be creative? There will be a game to beat in 2026 Minecraft at some level? Let's dive into some upcoming games and pick a few that really encourage player creativity and are worth checking out to start the hype train.
Octopath Traveler 0
A customizable turn-based RPG
- Planned release date: 12/4/25
- Planned systems: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S
The series that started the HD-2D trend returns with a revitalized prequel titled Octopath Traveler 0which started life as a mobile game. This time around, players will begin their journey by customizing their character, instead of choosing one of eight playable characters as in previous games.
The combat is still turn-based, but here players can fight two different sides in a battle for a total of eight characters at once, which is massive. The main core of the game is also the establishment of a new village, which gives players a lot of freedom in how they want to shape it. There may not be many creative games left in the pipeline in 2025, but Octopath Traveler 0 it is definitely worth paying attention to.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Pretty new
- Planned release date: 15.1.26
- Planned systems: Nintendo Switch 2
Animal Crossing: New Horizons it may not be a new game, but a mouthful of a port name, Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Editionis something for Switch 2 fans to get excited about instead of getting a new one Animal Crossing game in the near future. Switch 2 players can now enjoy the game with better graphics and performance, obviously, along with planning home furnishings with mouse control, which could be useful for precise furniture placement.
Players can also use GameChat to chat with their friends, have video screens displayed, and the number of co-op players increases from eight to twelve. These are Switch 2 exclusive features, but the free update will also change things for the game on both systems. This includes the addition of a hotel feature that allows players to creatively decorate rooms, official LEGO-based furniture to add to homes, a dream world with endless possibilities, and more.
Pokemon Pokopia
Live your best life Ditto
- Planned release date: 2026
- Planned systems: Nintendo Switch 2
Pokemon Pokopia can either be the next best thing Pokemon spinoff next door Pokemon Snapor it could be disastrous Pokemon Dash. It certainly looks weird enough to be fun. Playing as Ditto, who transforms into a human to serve as a player character, is something straight out of anime.
Players can absorb various powers from other Pokémon and cultivate their island, from cutting down trees to watering grass. They can build a house, garden, pave roads and much more. The only thing that is a mystery for now is whether players can escape from their homestead and battle Pokemon or other trainers, or if the game is purely about creativity.
Voidling Bound
Create your own creature
- Developer: Hatchery games
- Publisher: Hatchery games
- Planned release date: Q1 2026
- Planned systems: PC
Voidling Bound is another monster catching game, but this one has a twist. Players can go out and collect resources and catch critters to bring back to their lab. Once there, they can create their own monsters to use in battle and then control them in the world to compete in action combat.
Imagine you are playing a Pokemon game by combining monsters like Pikachu and Charmander together to create something like Charmanchu or Pikamander. This is something Game Freak should look into, but for now, fans of monster catching games should definitely Wishlist Voidling Boundespecially if they dreamed of having more customization options with their little friends.
Palworld: Palfarm
You have a friend in me
- Planned release date: TBA
- Planned systems: PC
Pokemon Pokopia isn't the only creative monster-based game that could come out in 2026 or later. Palworld: Palfarm is a spinoff of Palworldalthough the main game is still in Early Access, it is already a creative effort that everyone will enjoy. Palworld: Palfarm however, it looks more focused on the sim aspect instead of giving players an open world to explore, and the perspective has changed from 3D to top-down.
Players can build their city, improve the lives of citizens, and even marry other NPCs. There are shops to explore, trees to cut down, fish to catch and so on. Unlike Pokemon Pokopia, Palworld: Palfarm he will have a fight that could help him stand out.
Animal corner
Bite-Sized creativity
- Developer: LilliLandia Games
- Publisher: LilliLandia Games
- Planned release date: TBA
- Planned systems: PC, PlayStation and Switch 2
Animal corner it looks absolutely amazing and very different from most upcoming creative games. First, the visual style seems to be inspired by stop-motion animation or clay-based figures, and the aesthetics are out of this world. In addition, players will live out their days in a small fantasy world where they can build their villages in kitchens and other houses, similar to another creative game from 2025, Grounded 2.
Yes Animal corner set in a post-apocalypse? It might explain why no giant humans sweep miniature villages in their larger homes. Speculation aside, players can expect the usual set of options to build their little lives animal corner, but the unique perspective and animation style will definitely be a big draw.
Tomo: Infinite Blue
Keep an eye out for one piece
- Developer: Onibi
- Publisher: Onibi
- Planned release date: TBA
- Planned systems: PC
Tomo: Infinite Blue is one of the most ambitious monster catching games to be released in the near future. As expected of the genre, players can follow the usual routine of finding creatures, capturing them, and then fighting battles alongside them.
What makes this game special is that it has more to do Palworld than a Pokemon game. It takes place in a massive open world, complete with base building and crafting components. Players can create their character and ship and then sail around looking for new islands to explore. It looks like a whimsical crossover adventure Palworld with The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Wakerand this sounds like an incredible mashup worth experiencing.
