Developed by French studio Sandfall Interactive, the game has been hailed as a “revolutionary” turn-based RPG genre, with the game's combat and story receiving some of the highest praise from fans and reviewers alike. Clair Obscuro has already become one of the biggest buzzwords for potential Game of the Year winners, with the annual awards being handed out over a month away. However, the popular streamer is now pushing back against the RPG.

Popular streamer Shroud urged fans not to vote yes Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for Game of the Year during a recent broadcast. Shroud instead advocates for fans to vote ARC Raiders for Game of the Year, suggesting that The Game Awards unfairly skews its main award towards single-player experiences. The streamer encourages multiplayer players to “unite”, suggesting that multiplayer-oriented players are a “minority” among the voting audience. Shroud even claims that The Game Awards are “rigged” and urges fans to “not let Expedition win” Game of the Year.
Shroud's call to action comes as the streamer dives into Embark Studios' new multiplayer shooter. ARC Raiders has already seen significant success following its launch in late October, with the game boasting more than 250,000 players on its release day and receiving praise from fans and critics alike. ARC Raiders has already released its first post-launch update, with patch 1.1.0 not only bringing several bug fixes, but even adding a new “Hidden Bunker” event to the Spaceport map.
While The Game Awards have yet to reveal their nominees for Game of the Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 it is expected to be a lock for the nomination. Clair Obscuro it took just three days to cross the 1 million unit sales mark, with the game surpassing the 5 million copies mark in October. Clair Obscuro will likely face stiff competition in the Game of the Year category as well, with games like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Hades 2 they are also expected to be award candidates. Game of the Year 2025 is set to be a hotly contested award amongst some of gaming's hottest new releases.
