Death Stranding is getting an anime series, as revealed by Hideo Kojima and Disney. This is just the latest of Death Stranding spin-offs that have been announced in recent history.
Death Stranding offered players an unusual post-apocalyptic world to explore, and these new adaptations will help further flesh out the world and its inhabitants. It was previously announced Death Stranding will get a film adaptation plus an animated feature. While these projects are still in the works, the Kojima Productions universe doesn't seem to be slowing down its expansion.
New Death Stranding anime to stream on Disney+
During the Disney APAC Showcase, Disney announced a new anime series titled Death Stranding isolation would stream exclusively on Disney+ starting in 2027. Not much has been revealed about the overall plot yet, but it has been confirmed that the series will take place in the same world players explored as Sam Bridges.
According to Deadline, the anime will follow Bridges plus other characters as they try to navigate an isolated world. One is described as an old man trying to “realize salvation” while a warrior woman tries to create a world of constant conflict. A boy and a girl also appear, with the boy holding some kind of grudge against Norman Reedus' character while the girl struggles to accept her own loneliness.
In terms of production, the series will be animated by E&H Production, a Japanese animation studio founded in 2021 led by former MAPPA and Jujutsu Kaisen directed by Sunghoo Park. Takayuki Sano, who is a key animator who previously worked on similar anime Attack on Titan and Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Godswill direct the series, while Hideo Kojima is signed on as an executive producer. Although it is a Japanese anime, director Sano noted that the team wants it to be a global animation project with global talent to match. While key promotional art from the series has been shown, it should be noted that the title is still subject to change.
As already mentioned, this is not the only byproduct Death Stranding in parts. If all goes according to plan, a live event will also be shown in 2027 Death Stranding film by A24. Yet another animation project, Death Stranding: Mosquitohas no announced release window. However, it did get a short trailer, so it's possible that it will reach fans before the other two projects are completed.
