The World of Warcraft: Midnight the beta is having some pretty serious latency issues right now and it seems that the improved NPC fish behavior patterns are to blame. The large number of aquatic creatures along the coasts of Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman likely caused unexpected problems. World of Warcraft.
November 11 World of Warcraft officially launched Midnight beta. This is another major milestone towards the release of the next expansion, which should arrive in early 2026. The beta contains most of Midnightincluding all four new zones: Eversong Woods, Zul'Aman, Harandar and Voidstorm.
New Fish NPC behavior contributes to WoW: Midnight Beta Lag
Players on Midnight betas are experiencing some pretty bad lag and the source seems pretty suspect. According to a forum post by World of Warcraft game producer Zorbrix, the developers were trying to find the cause of the performance problems in Midnight beta since launch and after much research, fish appear to be one of the main contributing factors. Issues with improving NPC behavior in World of Warcraft combined with a large number of coasts and fish in the areas Midnight created the perfect storm to limit game performance across the realm.
Of course, fish are almost certainly not the only problem. Zorbrix admitted that it was “a collection of things causing server degradation [performance] and increased memory usage on world servers.” Each squashed bug would create two more, leading to a cascading problem. The developers are working to fix this, but it may still take some time for beta performance to stabilize. Hopefully these issues will be resolved sooner rather than later World of Warcraft'with Midnight Pre-Patch test event on November 17th.
That being said, the tweaks to NPC behavior that contributed to these issues caught the attention of many fans. Unlike many MMOs where monsters and NPCs simply sit on the field until they engage in combat, NPC v World of Warcraft patrolling, hunting, napping, foraging and even fighting each other. It will be interesting to see how these improvements improve the immersion of the new zones into Midnight and beyond.
This is far from the only glitch that has cropped up along the way Midnight testing. From A-posing World of Warcraft Night elves fall across the floor of the Silvermoon Barber Shop, Midnight they still have a few issues to work out. Players who want to help fix these beta bugs can sign up WoW or guarantee their place by pre-purchasing the Epic Edition of Midnight.
