Anno 117: Pax Romana unlocks new features as the settlement becomes more populated. Increasing the population will eventually improve the state of the city, where the state level of the city comes with several penalties and buffs that force players to modify their buildings in Anno 117: Pax Romana while allowing them to grow faster in other areas. Here's what you need to know about City status level v Anno 117: Pax Romana.
How to increase city status in Anno 117 Pax Romana
State of the city in Anno 117: Pax Romana is like your city level which represents how big the settlement is PopulationYou can see the request for a higher city status by checking the Roman numeral at the top of the screen, to the left of the settings button, to the right of the island name.
In this help you can check, for example, how far you are from the next city state; the type and level of the city you currently have; your romanization level, percentage and influence; and details on the effects of attributes that city status has on your city.
Keep in mind that Population is not the number of manpower you have. Instead, the population can be increased by placing buildings that increase the population. For example, at the beginning you use Market and Tavern to grow your population.
Here is the state of the city and the required population for the first five levels:

What does City Status do in Anno 117 Pax Romana?
High city status will decrease luck, health, and fire safety, but increase faith, knowledge, and prestige. This makes sense because a large population will come with more risks but also more progress with civilization.
Build vigils to improve fire safety or find Wells in the research tree Anno 117: Pax Romana bring a minor +1 fire safety. Players can also isolate buildings with debuffs to avoid punishment.
City status is also required to unlock new things in the city. For example, after moving to Albion in the campaign, you must reach City Status level four to unlock Vigiles, a City Watch building that helps put out a fire when it happens. Meanwhile, in the Latium of Endless Sandbox mode, Vigiles will unlock after reaching city level two.
