Hazelight Studios has perfected co-op. The way out, It takes twoand Split Fiction they are masterfully executed games for 2 players which take full advantage of multiplayer formulas. You can't imagine these stories being told effectively without co-op, at least not in a way that preserves their core themes and gameplay. Although all three are equally fantastic, It takes two was the release that really put Hazelight on the map, setting the bar for modern co-op gaming in the process. The way out and Split Fiction they exist in its shadow, though they may be better in some areas.
honestly speaking games like It takes two they don't come around often and projects that are 100% identical don't exist. However, local co-op games have been gaining momentum lately, thanks in part to the efforts and achievements of Hazelight, so the future is bright and full of adventures that experiment with storytelling, puzzles and teamwork. As It takes twoHis greatest asset is his imagination, let's highlight a few upcoming co-op games which should also have a unique identity that sets them apart from the crowd.
Tojibo
Cozy puzzle platformer for 2 players
Hazelight is completely committed to co-op, to the point that none of the studio's games offer single-player options. That was and still is a risky move that automatically disqualifies a large group of people from even considering picking up the game. Hazelight is well-known enough these days that any new titles should garner a lot of attention, but that can't be said for most indie developers who choose to go this route. Vermeil Soft's Tojibo is a puzzle platformer that requires two playersand supports both local and online co-op.
Now, in full disclosure, the game looks completely different It takes two. If you are mainly looking for an adventure story game, Tojibo may not be the best choice for you. However, if you mainly enjoyed it It takes twoWith clever co-op puzzles, this upcoming release should be a hit. The 2D platformer is all about teamwork, with players needing to support and (literally) carry each other to progress through each stage. While I'm sure it will offer some challenges, the game promises that the puzzles are fun and not overly difficult, a motto that It takes two it seemed to stick.
Reanimate
A co-op horror adventure
Admittedly this is more of a personal choice as I can't wait to get my hands on Tarsier Studios Reanimate. Developer's Little nightmares posts are INCREDIBLE horror puzzle-platformers that shine in all three genres, which is far from an easy task. Reanimate It seems to be cut from the same cloth as those titles, albeit with one major change: Co-op. Unlike Little Nightmares 2the odd decision to play with two protagonists but no multiplayer, Reanimate allows two friends to team up for local or online support. The main characters in the story are also siblings and their bond can be tested or strengthened which would be somewhat similar to It takes two's married couple, Cody and May.
Although it does not contain a multiversal pass, Reanimate takes place in an otherworldly realm that looks like it was plucked straight from Lovecraftian hell, and the campaign should feature a number of unique locations. The heroes must survive a thrilling journey to try to save their friend and encounter entities that are anything but friendly. Tonally, Reanimate is very different from It takes twoand you probably have to be at least a little into horror to fully consider it. This means that the game should mainly focus on puzzles and maybe some stealth.
Scary paws
The best of boys tries to save his best friend
Don't you have nightmares? How about a horror game that's cozy and cute? Scary paws they throw you and your partner around like puppies. Yes, you heard that right, you play for the dogs. Okay, that's probably enough information to keep anyone interested, but let's dig a little deeper.
Scary paws sees these heroic dogs enter a haunted mansion to search for their missing owner, encountering many ghostly creatures along the way. They will have to explore, solve puzzles and complete mysteries while trying to avoid the grizzly end. You also play like puppies. Have I mentioned this yet?
Awaysis
A co-op physics based battle adventure
It takes two it tells an overall good story, but there are plenty of people who love it mainly for the gameplay rather than the emotional journey of Cody and May. Hazelight's brilliance lies in its ability to connect narrative and mechanics to create a fully realized and complementary experience. Awaysis should have a gameplay element and hopefully a fun good vs evil story.
Set on a floating mountain that looks stunning from the footage available, a group of animal-style friends embark on a dangerous mission to save their home, ready to slash and slash their way through all manner of enemies. AwaysisThe combat is based on physics, which is unusual and should be unique. Although action seems to be the main focus, the game will likely feature platforming and maybe some puzzles, but don't quote me on that.
