Ubisoft is reportedly planning to release a remake Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in January 2026. Such a move, which is in line with Ubisoft's previously stated launch plans, could give the company a potentially strong candidate for sale during a typically quiet period for video game releases.
The modernized version of the 2003 classic was originally announced in 2020 as a joint project between Ubisoft's Mumbai and Pune studios. Two years later, the development Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time the remake was ported to Ubisoft Montreal, the creator of the original game. The move was made in response to fan backlash over the remake's revealed trailer, which failed to impress a vocal section of the fandom. In its May 2025 earnings report, Ubisoft stated that the game is on track for release during the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2026.

Ubisoft is providing a small development update for fans who have been patiently waiting for the 2026 remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake's launch window has narrowed in a new report
A new report from Insider Gaming has now narrowed down that release window, stating that the game is slated to launch in January 2026, citing sources close to the project. Ubisoft is reportedly targeting a mid-month release, with the title expected to debut simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, as previously announced. The claim is consistent with Ubisoft's previously stated launch timing and with a July 2025 teaser from CFO Frederick Duguet, who said at the time that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time a remake is on the horizon.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake may get a release date at TGA 2025
Insider Gaming sources believe that the upgraded version The sands of time is likely to appear at The Game Awards 2025, which is scheduled for December 11. As one of the biggest events in the industry, TGA offers an opportunity for Ubisoft to announce the game's release date. Given the show's usual format, such a reveal would most likely be coupled with a new trailer.
When it was first announced, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time the remake was scheduled for release in January 2021. After moving the project from India to Canada—where developer wages are significantly higher—its total budget likely far exceeded Ubisoft's original projections. It is unclear whether the change of developer affected the scope of the project.
The remake will mark Ubisoft Montreal's first console game release since 2022 Roller Champions. Since then, the Canadian studio has been working on the Meta Quest 2023 exclusive Assassin's Creed Nexus VR and Rainbow Six Mobilean upcoming title for Android and iOS devices. New main line Assassin's Creed code game Project Hex is also currently in development at a Montreal-based company.
