Metroid Prime 4 fans have had enough of the game's annoying companions

After nearly a decade of waiting, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is officially out on the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, marking the end of what has been a rather painful experience for Metroid fans starving for any content.

Unfortunately, a new type of pain took over. This one for the ears.

Metroid Prime 4 review falls short of the original trilogy

Metroid Prime 4 is good, but maybe not as good as some of you are hoping it will be.

That's because fans of the iconic Nintendo franchise absolutely can't stand the voices of the in-game companions. So much so that they're actively looking for ways to mute these voices and even offer to pay Nintendo for a feature that removes them entirely.

More so than on Metroid's Reddit, although many praise the game's mechanics, there is also a vocal group that wants the supporting characters to just shut up.

“Actually, Myles pissed me off more than I expected,” wrote one user (thanks to GamesRadar for reporting it). “I figured once you left the area where you met him, he'd stop giving walkthroughs and hints. It was annoying to begin with, but short. But 3 hours in, he keeps reminding me to save the game (after saving moments before) and whenever I finish a puzzle he'll call to say something must have changed in the environment.”

“You have to drive all over the desert collecting green crystals and they punish you by ringing Myles every 5 minutes,” wrote another.

Oh!

One commenter said that the content creator muted the voice acting in the game, and as it turns out, nothing of value was lost.

This is probably a small Band-Aid fix, but really what everyone, including this user who is willing to pay $10 for the ability to make Myles stop talking, is looking for is a generic mute button, something that could come in a patch, assuming enough people file complaints.

Games added mute buttons earlier in response to fan backlash

A mute button is surprisingly not unheard of, which makes the prospect of it coming to Metroid Prime 4 that much more believable. When Borderlands 4 came out earlier this year, it brought with it the Claptrap volume down button, which means you can turn off the annoying yellow mascot completely.

Elsewhere, Dynasty Warriors Origins had a post-launch patch that disabled NPCs' ability to make tons of empty noise. Otherwise known as the “Mute Patch.” But that's not all, as the PC release of God of War also included a feature to mute Atreus and Freya, two of the biggest poster children for annoying companions.

Which means that Metroid Prime 4 is really just the latest in a string of recent examples of games that have companions who talk too much, repeat the same tired lines and cues, and people are frankly sick of it.
