Great games with bad sequels

It's inevitable, but even the greatest franchises of all time take some risks that won't sit well with every fan. Sometimes these games are hated by everyone and sometimes they divide the community. The following text goes both sides of the coin. So while these games may not be completely worthless, fans are happy to forget about them due to a lot of factors.

Duke in Bulletstorm

Major video game franchises that never recovered from one bad game

These were once blockbuster video game franchises, but thanks to one bad game, we may never see them again.

Maybe they changed the main character in a weird way, or maybe they moved the setting somewhere where it doesn't make sense. Another great tip is to remove the entire character list. Again, not everyone hates these games, and there's certainly some fun to be had with them, but they're definitely not the best games in these franchises.

Devil May Cry 2

Is it really Dante?

Devil May Cry 2 is one of the most famous examples of a direct sequel that disappointed fans in some way. The original game had stylish combos and Dante was a smooth talker with one joke after another waiting.

Dante pretty much went silent in the sequel, and while players could pull off some great combos, it was a much easier game overall. In retrospect, it's a pretty good action game now, but it doesn't hold a candle Devil May Cry legacy and even Capcom is trying to forget it.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023)

Weird ending to the remake trilogy

Of all of them Call of Duty games, there is only one sub-series that has seen a reboot. Originally published in 2007, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare changed the series forever and created a trilogy that fans adored.

The first reboot was released in 2019, with another following in 2022, both of which received high praise, so it made sense that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 a conclusion in 2023 would be just as great. Unfortunately, a lot of things went wrong, from glitches to a short and weird campaign to an overall substandard polish Call of Duty usually hits.

Phantom game

Metal Gear Survive was the first game to follow Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain after Hideo Kojima left Konami. It left fans with a strange feeling, but in the end they were optimistic that there were other people at Konami who could make a good Metal Gear game.

Sergeant William Pierson in Call of Duty WWII

Once great franchises of FPS games that have lost their identity over time

Can these FPS franchises come back bigger and better than before, or are they doomed?

While the idea wasn't bad for a survival game, and the weird zombie-like enemies were creepy, there just wasn't enough there to get us excited. As a Metal Gear The game also didn't fit at all, so it's just a weird survival game bearing the franchise's name.

Metroid: Another M is a game that has a divided community because it's good on one side Metroid game from a gameplay perspective. The transition between 2D and 3D segments is stellar, the action is more intense than ever, and the maze-like structure is well-designed.

What stops it though is the story because they gave Samus a voice and made her subordinate to her fellow officers. Samus is such an iconic video game character that fans have built up in their heads as a taciturn scumbag and then seen her become obedient to others. Metroid: Another M it was too much to handle.

A strange comeback

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is the fourth main game in the series and the first to fully feature a story similar to it Mortal Kombat reboot in 2011. As silly as it is, the story has its charm and the gameplay was pretty good overall, but it didn't quite reach Capcom's top tier.

What fans didn't like the most was the shortened list. The X-Men characters go way back in the Capcom fighting games where they first appeared X-Men: Children of the Atom in 1994 to have them all removed Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite because Marvel and Disney's decisions regarding the MCU were practically a slap in the face.

Dino Crisis 3

Loan from Jason X

With the new millennium, everyone seemed to be obsessed with future content, often set in space, like Jason X. Dino Crisis 3 he dipped his paw into a spaceship as well, stepping out of a Jurassic Park-like facility on Earth in the first two games before setting up on a space station in this sequel.

Rico in Just Cause 4

6 decent games that are remembered as franchise killers

Can these franchises ever come back, or have the following games killed any potential for a return?

Capcom knows how to apply camp to their horror games well, like Resident Eviland the idea of fighting dinosaurs in space might have been good. However, this sequel was largely pushed by everyone due to poor controls and camera angles, making things harder than they should have been.

Everyone // Violence

The Mega Man X the SNES games were all good, followed by a good run on the PS1, but when it came down to it Mega Man X7things really took off. First, the titular hero X was out of action for much of the game, meaning players could either be Zero or Axl, a new character.

Axl had the new puppy syndrome, from his personality to his movement, because he wanted to be the coolest character ever, but instead came off as a bit of a pushover. The game itself, presented in 2.5D, was also not as smooth to control as other games.

Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded

Promotional art featuring characters in Kingdom Hearts ReCoded

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded was originally released for mobile in Japan before getting this DS remake. It's the only game in the series for handhelds and consoles that fans can easily skip, and most of them have.

Again, it pretty much retreads the Disney Worlds from the first game and doesn't move the plot forward in any meaningful way. It's okay for a DS action game, but it's nowhere near the pinnacle The heart of the kingdom series and again, fans can easily jump over Kingdom Hearts Re:coded and still understand the whole saga.
