Just one night after setting the collective internet on fire with the reveal of a new Star Wars title set in The Old Republic era and helmed by none other than RPG legend Casey Hudson himself, the female protagonist is helping to put out a separate fire related to the supposed release window.
Hudson made it very clear on Twitter that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, or FOTOR as all the cool kids call it, will be released before 2030, which is the window that many were using in response to the game's sudden announcement.
I'm not getting any younger!
His response is seemingly aimed at veteran games journalist Jason Schreier, who noted in a separate post on Bluesky how the studio's recent formation has him optimistic that FOTOR could arrive in the 2030s.
Last night's biggest surprise was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, fronted by Casey Hudson, who directed KOTOR (and Anthem). Exciting news for a lot of people… but Lucasfilm says the studio was founded this year, making 2030 an *optimistic* estimate. Maybe it will be a PlayStation 7 game — Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier.bsky.social) 2025-12-12T16:30:44.271Z
As Schreier further noted in the responses to his post, Wonder Woman was also a game that had a massive slot at The Game Awards, but was ultimately canceled. Others have also noted the many games that debut with big-budget cinematics but never see the light of day.
Don't be afraid to play Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2
Ubisoft Red Lynx has created an exceptional version of Star Wars Outlaws for Nintendo Switch 2.
And if there's one thing Star Wars fans, specifically Star Wars video game fans, know, it's that sometimes things can look and sound too good to be true.
Luck hasn't been on Star Wars' side either, so don't blame people for losing hope
Hudson's statement is quite a bold statement, especially when you consider that the team making the game, Arcanaut Studios, is only a few months old. GameDev, as we are all crudely aware, is a fairly complex process that can be extremely expensive and have many twists and turns.
With that in mind, 2030 is especially generous given that we're already slowly approaching 2026, leaving only a small window of time for a big-budget game that will no doubt have many IP hoops to jump through before release.
I can't be the only one who thinks about 1313 every now and then. As a Star Wars fan, it hurts to think about what could have been.
Fortune has also not been on Star Wars' side in recent years, with 1313 and the Mandalorian standalone first-person shooter being canceled, as well as the disappearance of news for Star Wars: Eclipse and the Knights of the Old Republic remake.
No matter, Hudson seems to have a lot of faith in his team and their ability to deliver. Time will tell if this is the case. Here's hoping it does so it can buck the trend of ill-fated Star Wars titles.
