Crafting is a game mechanic that has been added to many different games in recent years, not just survival crafting. Some systems were really simple and contained only a few hundred items for players to craft, while others were absolutely massive and played a major role in the game. From building complex factories to medieval weapons and even deep space habitats, crafting also came in many different flavors.

Here we focus on the games that come with the most craftable items. Now it's pretty hard to measure exactly. The question of what counts as a craftable item isn't always easy to define in each game, as there are variants and levels that further complicate the matter, and multi-chain recipes and full information on the exact numbers for each game are not widely available. With that in mind, these are my best estimates of the approximate number of craftable items, ranked from lowest to highest.

No Man's Sky

Several hundred craftable items

Although No Man's Sky is at the bottom of the scale, it is by no means a game with few craftable items. On the contrary, it is a crafting heaven for all space sci-fi lovers who like to explore alien planets.

Recipes and processes can be quite complex as you craft all sorts of things from your own tech space bases, cool starships, cooking food, crafting consumables and various upgrades for things like your exosuit. And that's without resorting to Refining, which is basically something like crafting but turns some of your resources into something more, well, refined.

Valheim

Approximately 300 or more crafting items

Let's leave the sci-fi setting for now and go back in time to the Viking Age. Valheim takes you into an increasingly dangerous Viking-themed open world survival game where each biome you progress through presents a greater challenge than the last.

To survive and thrive against enemies and bosses, you'll need to build shelters, upgrade your equipment, make potions, cook food, and of course craft tools to harvest and farm for the resources needed to craft. Some recipes are locked behind specific workstations, so you'll have to constantly upgrade your base and discover new Minecraft-style resources to get to each one.

Vintage story

At least over 300 craftable items

Vintage story it will tickle Minecraft every crafting enthusiast's itch, but it adds some deep layers of survival and challenge to a game that feels very much like Minecraftbut it isn't. Some things are crafted using knapping, while others use a more traditional crafting grid.

Weapons must be crafted on the anvil using special tools such as pliers and a hammer, so it goes without saying that players will spend a lot of time gathering the right ingredients, foraging and farming to craft more and more in their quest for survival. Definitely give it a try if Minecraft it's getting too easy for you.

Minecraft

Over 500 crafting items

Being the ultimate open world sandbox survival craft, Minecraft probably has around 500 or more crafting items. Many different types of stone, brick and even wood have been added over the years. As you collect and harvest new items in the game, you'll automatically learn new crafting recipes, which you'll find in your recipe book in your inventory.

Then you just make them on the craft bench. It's not the deepest system around, but it's the most accessible and incredibly diverse. Plus you can always go super deep into anything redstone or even modded Minecraft if the vanilla version just doesn't have enough stuff for you. My personal favorite? RLCraft or RLCraft Dregora. You'll have hours of grinding, challenging and crafting at your fingertips, mixed with some RPG elements.

Factorio

Over 500 craftable items, possibly much more

As they say, the factory must grow, and that means producing more and more Factorio. This is the perfect game for those who are technically minded and love to create complex gadgets, automate their processes and value efficiency (or not, the choice is yours). The game easily has at least 500 craftable items, but that's a low, generous estimate.

With all the technology available, as you progress and build your massive factory, that number explodes very quickly. As in No Man's Skyyou also have the process of refining certain resources, which is also considered part of crafting here for simplicity. If redstone from Minecraft was just the beginning for you, this is another crafting game you should try because it offers huge possibilities.

7 Days To Die

At least more than 600 craftable items

600 is a pretty generous estimate 7 days to deaththe final tally is probably somewhere over 700 or 800, mainly due to all the upgrades and item variants available later in the game. As in Vintage story and Valheimyou will need specialized workstations to create certain items.

For example, if you plan to craft some first aid kits, you'll either need to find a chemical station or build one yourself with the resources you scavenged. A workstation will cover tons of items on its own, but getting specialized stations will help you save on cost and time to create. For those who enjoy zombie survival and would like a deep crafting system mixed with base building as well, this is an almost perfect choice.

Ark: Survival Evolved

Over 700 crafting items

So maybe zombies aren't your thing and you'd rather wander around an exotic island littered with dinosaurs, in that case ARK: Survival Evolved is more your cup of tea. It also has a pretty impressive range of crafting items, from everything you need to build a shelter, to weapons, tools, and even clothing.

ARK's recipes are usually for blueprints, which require no Engram points but take up inventory space, and Engrams, which are permanently unlocked recipes requiring the use of Engram points. There are a ton of these recipes and you'll need thousands of Engram points to fully unlock them all, including the DLC stuff, so you'll soon be out of business in this game.

Conan's Exiles

Maybe in the thousands with all the extras

How to get really massive crafting games, Conan's Exiles will probably drop to thousands in number of items. You'll find all the usual crafting categories as it's another crafting game, from weapons, shelter building objects to armor and tools for harvesting the things you need for further crafting.

Exploring won't be enough for you to get your hands on all the recipes here. Instead, you have to level up and gain knowledge, and different objects require a different workstation to create on. Namely, weapons will need a Blacksmith Bench and potions will force you to craft an Alchemist's Bench first. Then, further down the line, you upgrade these workstations to higher levels. It's a pretty layered system.

Wurm Online

Thousands of items

With the last two, it's hard to tell exactly who is the top dog among them Wurm Online and Terrariumsbut we'll start with the first one, which contains probably thousands of craftable items. While some items require upgrading specific workstations, such as the anvil when it comes to refining iron, most crafting is pretty straight forward on the crafting screen. This allows you to combine two items together and even queue up multiple items of the same type for mass production.

However, a word of warning as each item is marked with a different percentage of your ability to craft it. Just because you know a recipe doesn't mean you'll actually be successful in crafting that item, and it will depend a lot on how skilled you are, as well as how good the materials and tools you have are. If you're interested, get ready for tons of recipes from furniture to construction items to tools, weapons, armor, and more.

Terrariums

Over 2000 crafting items

The next king of craft items is without a doubt Terrariums. This charming 2D sandbox survival game with a good dose of RPG elements Minecraft it comes with a pretty staggering amount of recipes. The armor, weapons, and tools themselves come in many varieties, from wizard robes to Stardust armor. You'll need to get better tools, defeat certain bosses that are either found or summoned, and discover ores in your world to progress from one set to the next.

And that's just the equipment. There is also furniture that allows you to design the perfect house for yourself and quirky NPCs, food, potions, construction items… Like many other games listed here, Terrariums it also uses various workstations such as furnace, saw, loom, infusing station and so on. Once you turn on hard mode after a certain boss fight, the scope of the game expands to even more crafting options.
