Pokemon Legends: ZA Player Laments Shiny Feebas

Pokemon waived the fees

Cassowary Crow's Pokemon Trainer on Reddit shared a moment of regret when he revealed his Shiny Feebas in Pokemon Legends: ZA on NPCs. This was not done out of necessity as the NPC simply asked for a regular Feebas. However, CassowaryCrow had a plan: they wanted to trade the NPCs for Shinys, so whenever they were in the area, they would have a chance to see their Shiny Feebas in the world hanging out with his new trainer. The NPC, Soucian, graciously accepted Feebas and even acknowledged that he was Shiny. However, when the player returned to the location, their Feebas were nowhere to be found. They spoke to Soucian, who revealed that she had released the Pokémon back into the wild with the intention of allowing the Feebas to befriend the local Magikarp.

Those who responded to the post were largely horrified by the situation, with many joking about calling the police officer Jenny to report the situation. Others have discussed how it's actually a terrible idea to release a wild creature into an existing ecosystem, as the Soucian will eventually do. Players also noticed that Feebas would eventually appear after handing one over, but unfortunately, CassowaryCrow's Shiny wouldn't be able to return even then. Some said that the NPC wondering why there were no Feebas in the water indicated that she would let it go after receiving it. However, he never explicitly states this up front, gets upset if Feebas is denied, and specifically asks for “Feebas to have as my own”, so it's reasonable to think he intends to keep Feebas, not release him.

What's the point of passing on fees?

While losing a Shiny is not something anyone wants to go through, there is a good reason to give a non-Shiny Feebas trainer. The request is a side quest in Wild Zone 2 called Feebas's New Friends. In addition to giving her one, which will eventually cause more Feebas to appear in the water, it also rewards the player with ₽1,600 and a Prism Scale. Prism Scales can be given to Feebas before training them on another player, causing him to evolve into Milotic. Players without more than one Feeb will need to take another to use Prism Scale, but it's not a bad way to get an item and work your way up to Milotic.

While CassowaryCrow lamented his decision to give his Shiny Feebas to Soucian, the story ultimately had a happy ending. The player noted in the comments that they ended up uploading a backup save because they were so bothered by what just happened. As a result, they have their shiny Feebas back, but not everyone Pokemon the player is so lucky. Another trainer mentioned in the comments that they gave Shiny Alpha Feebas to an NPC that already had Prism Scale equipped. Since the Pokemon is given away and not traded, it doesn't evolve and is still thrown into the water by NPCs and never seen again.
