With everything going on in and around Christmas, including the penultimate batch of Stranger Things episodes and catching up on all the Game of the Year contenders, it's easy to forget that Season 2 of Amazon Prime's live-action adaptation of Fallout is also happening every week.
Already one of the highest-rated projects of the year, Fallout Season 2 is shaping up to be another trailblazer when it comes to video game adaptation. So much so that fans are once again asking one simple question: Where the hell is the new Fallout game?
Fallout was never Bethesda and it's time for someone else to take over
Bethesda once took over Fallout from Interplay and it was time for a new developer to do the same.
The Fallout universe is too rich to keep everyone waiting for Bethesda
Taking a look at Reddit, fans of the series are confused that despite its success, the only title still receiving updates is the highly divisive Fallout 76.
“Literally the easiest bag of money they could ask for,” one person wrote in part. “(I don't know) why they didn't plan to take advantage of that. I know it's unreasonable to quickly make a game out of nothing, but I feel like this could have been planned.”
That's a fairly fair assessment, especially when you consider that on the other hand, Sony managed to pump up an entire Until Dawn remake to coincide with a very bad movie. Both Devil May Cry and Splinter Cell have received anime adaptations once again, and neither is in the queue for new entries.
“We've been waiting 11 years dude,” wrote another. “Welcome to the club.
This club seems to get more crowded with each passing week as more and more people realize how incredible the world of Fallout is, only to find out how inaccessible its games are.
That's because if you're on Switch or PlayStation, then Fallout 3 and New Vegas, both considered the pinnacle of the franchise, are unavailable to you.
“They should play major games every 5 years even if the technological leaps aren't that big,” wrote another fan.
As it is, Todd Howard has claimed that Season 3 of the show is in the works and that Bethesda wants to add elements of the show to their games. It's unclear when Season 3 will be released, and with Bethesda yet to release The Elder Scrolls 6, any shared continuity could be years away, as Howard previously confirmed.
However, there is hope, albeit a glimmer. Earlier this month, Howard acknowledged potential remasters for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but didn't provide much more.
“We get it, right? We see all the comments,” said Todd Dexerto. “We're working on a whole bunch of things. And we're looking forward to the day we can reveal them.”
Let's hope that day comes soon and fast because these fans, myself included, are hungry for new content.
