Tokai Teio is a Pace Chaser in Umamusume: Pretty Derby who is capable of significantly leading during the final spurt. This is mainly due to her high speed, so even if the front runners don’t get affected by fatigue much, she will easily overtake them and leave them in the dust.
Umamusume: Pretty Derby – Best Mejiro McQueen Build
Mejiro McQueen can be a phenomenal character for the late game in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, but she’s also quite hard to build.
You will need to balance her stats to make sure she doesn’t lack in key areas necessary to get a lead. Preserving stamina to play as a pace chaser will also help particularly in Tokai’s case, as she lacks the aptitude for longer races. Getting the right support cards will also help her attain useful skills.
Updated December 27, 2025 by Zoë J. Osik: We’ve updated our guide to include a complete breakdown of Tokai Teio’s career and events, as well as a few tweaks to the best support cards and legacy recommendations to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.

Tokai Teio is one of the easier Pace Chasers that you can build as a beginner. Her strongest point is Speed, which can help her get quite ahead of other pacers running behind. You can easily train her to have high Speed and Stamina stats, due to her aptitudes in these stats. Tokai’s growth rate for speed is 20 percent, and stamina is ten percent.
You can build her as a Front Runner as well to utilize her speed and stamina stats well, but you really need a high number on both stats. She works well as a Late Surger as well if you have high power. You should not play her as an End Closer at all.
Tokai is good at medium tracks, and can run decently on long distances as well. However, you need to increase her stamina a lot if you have long races upcoming in her career. She has a lower aptitude in them, so you need to use legacies to improve her.
Your main strategy will be chasing the Front Runners, and overtaking them using your speed and stamina, when they get fatigued. A few skills will help you as well, but generally Tokai doesn’t rely on them too much.

Tokai Teio has the capability to go very fast as a Pace Chaser, so naturally, you will want to focus on speed the most. You need a good number, so she gets a significant lead. You also need enough stamina to keep up that speed, especially when the tracks are longer during the URA Finale, you will need at least 620.
During the early stages of her career, you should focus on speed, stamina, and power. You can compromise on power if you have enough of the first two stats to get further. You generally do not need Guts and Wits at that time.
We don’t recommend training Guts, as you will get it enough from Stamina. You can train wits easily during certain days when Tokai’s energy is low.
If you find your power low, we recommend running her on Front instead of Pace. However, if you also get the right skills for her, which she will activate if you have enough Wit, she will easily clear her career mode.
Legacy Recommendation
We recommend getting legacies from Front Runners or Pace Chasers, especially those characters who work well with Speed and Stamina stats. We recommend Mihono Bourbon, Symboli Rudolf, El Condor Pasa, and Silence Suzuka.
The sparks obtained from these characters will give you a great boost to get the optimum stats you need. The unique skills of these characters, such as Corzazon Ardiente and G100 1st, will help you get a lead.
