World Fallout games are some of the darkest Bethesda has ever created. There is death, suffering, loss, and longing for time that was lost to the warring of a few. It's all painted against the backdrop of greedy corporations that refuse to be restrained in their pursuit of scientific excellence, namely the horrific experiments of Vault-Tec and the dubious actions of major factions like the Institute. As a result, the post-war wasteland is gruesome and merciless, and this brutality is reflected in the many companions that players meet on their adventures.
Fallout 4: All Romances, Rated
Fallout 4 is one of those games that has something for everyone. And that little thing includes several different romantic paths.
While most of us know the names and stories of companions who have the most tragic stories of all Falloutfrom Fawkes to Cait and Boon, we're not talking about the worst of the worst today. There are a few companions that fly under the radar, either because they aren't as popular or as talked about as others, but they still have incredibly dark stories that are worth highlighting. These are the ones you may not even remember suffering quite a bit before the player character came into their lives.

Curie
He witnessed the slow withering away of human lives
Starting with everyone's favorite robot doctor Fallout 4Curie. A resident of the hidden area of Vault 81, her mission, along with her long-dead human counterparts, was to develop a cure for a mole-borne disease. The plan was to use the Vault residents as guinea pigs in the name of science, but the Overseer, skeptical of Vault-Tec's greedy and unethical plan, decided to take action against them by sabotaging their work. This resulted in the scientists slowly dying one by one while Curie watched helplessly from her side. Despite this, she still completed the development of the cure as planned, and when the Sole Survivor finally finds her, she has spent the last several decades simply “scanning the walls”.
Regardless of what you think of the Vault 81 experiment and how justified the Warden may have been in her actions, you have to admit that it's pretty exhausting what Curie had to go through. She's obviously a tomboy, but there's something incredibly sad about how optimistic and naive she is as a companion despite what she's been through. It's hard not to feel sorry for her, not to mention imagine how helpless she must have felt when she couldn't save her fellow humans.

Porter Gage
Raided becomes Raider
Countless characters in Fallout the universe endure loss and pain at the hands of the invaders. Some of them choose revenge, others just move on. Porter Gage by Fallout 4however, it has a rather unique path. Gage's life as a settler was unusual, and he remembers how his parents bent over backwards to accommodate local raiders. He eventually got sick of it and decided he was better off alone than to be a victim for the rest of his life. He ran away and after working here and there, he got a spot in a gang and became a raider himself. He basically became what he despised, the very thing he saw his parents endure. What could be darker?
Fallout 4: 8 Overcome Buildings That Are Lots of Fun
Building a focused character in Fallout 4 can generate very overpowered results, which is what these builds excel at.
However, Gage's time in the gang was not easy. He was betrayed by his leader, who probably began to feel threatened by Gage's wit and resourcefulness, thinking that he would eventually steal the top dog spot from him. After the betrayal, he went from gang to gang before landing with Colter's group in Nuka-World, where the Sole Survivor ends up. While his story isn't a tearjerker, you'd think that as a settler who suffered for years at the hands of raiders, you'd choose a path that wouldn't make you into such a thing. It's a highly ironic story that makes you wonder what his parents might think of him if they saw him now.

Lily
Grandma's life turned into hell
The Master is known as one of the most obnoxious characters in the series Fallout universe for his desire to create the ultimate human race using the FEV and through his super mutant powers Unity and Lily Bowen is one example of this ultimate cruelty. Formerly a resident of Vault 17, where she led a relatively idyllic life as a grandmother of two grandchildren, Lily was captured by the Master's forces in one fateful raid and turned into a Nightkin with an FEV. Transformed into her new form, she was nothing more than a military pawn forced to kill to the Lord and his Unity. Fortunately, after the events of Fallout, she was able to leave Unity and can be found in Jacobstown Fallout: New Vegas as the courier arrives.
However, her time in Unity took its toll on her, as it does on every soldier. Lily suffers from schizophrenia, which developed over time when she was forced to use Stealth Boy while serving the Master's whims. It manifests as a dark, evil voice that urges her to do bad things. Unfortunately, the cure for the condition isn't much better either, as Lily is in danger of losing her precious and close memories of her grandchildren. It's absolutely sickening and heartbreaking to see how much she's lost after the Master's actions, and it's pretty infuriating to hope we could go back to the first Fallout and destroy the abomination again and again. Justice for our dear grandmother.

Lenny, Myron and K-9
Fallout 2 was really Really Dark
Soon Fallout games had “no chill” when it came to dark story lines, so I'm going to do a triple whammy by introducing three companions from the second game who personally left a pretty big impression on me with their stories.
Let's start with Lenny. When the war finally came, he became a resident of Vault 12, which on the surface looked like the perfect safe haven. However, as we all know, Vault-Tec cannot be trusted. The dark peculiarity of this particular Vault was that it was supposed to conduct research on the effects of radiation, which is why the Vault doors were never completely closed. Lenny was turned into a ghoul, a fate he couldn't have predicted in his wildest dreams. Imagine this: trusting that everything will be fine, only for your body to reach this bizarre state of near-immortal decay.
The 10 best stories from Bethesda Games, ranked
As a developer and publisher, Bethesda has left its mark on the gaming industry by creating deep, immersive stories that players can get lost in.
Next we have Myron. Myron's story is dark not because he suffered a lot or had a hard time, but because of the impact he and his story had on the rest of the wasteland. Myron is actually the genius behind Jet, the iconic chemistry that is everything Fallout fans will know. As part of the Mordinos, he did a lot of research to create what we now know as the Jet, the price of which was countless slaves used as test subjects. Fortunately, he meets a fitting end for one of his kind: at the hands of a violent Jet addict.
Finally, the K-9 is here. This dog is not your usual Dogmeat, with the ability to speak and the intelligence of a human being. He is actually a cyber dog and this added layer of intelligence is what led to his tragic story. When K-9 had had enough of watching his superior, Dr. Schreber, as he conducts his morally dubious research, bites a man. His punishment? He could no longer use his legs. Unable to move, he was condemned to watch Schreber continue his evil ways until the player arrived.

Clover
The slave who never asks
Clover doesn't get much love Fallout 3mainly because to get it in the first place you have to go through the Evil Karma speech check to literally buy it. You see, Clover is a slave and under the rule of the infamously awful Eulogy Jones found in Paradise Falls. Personally, I don't like getting into bad games because it's hard for me to stick to my bad ways, but the great thing about Clover is that once you buy her for whatever amount of caps you've managed to negotiate, she doesn't really care which way your karma moves.
One would think that saving her from Eulogy would be a good thing, which is probably true given the physical and verbal abuse she endured at his hands. However, Clover is long gone mentally. She has no self-confidence and will blindly follow whoever is her owner at the time. She never questions this absolute loyalty, even when she was under praise, and even when she was under the rule of the Lone Wanderer. She's lived a torturous life as a slave and a woman, and the worst part is that she doesn't even realize it, given all the brainwashing she's endured over the years, but mostly under Eulogy. She doesn't even feel remorse or sense of camaraderie with Crimson, who is in the exact same situation as her. I can think of nothing worse than a fate like hers.

Heartbreaking endings to touching stories are not reserved for movies and television. Some video games have incredibly sad endings.
