This article contains spoilers from My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
My Hero Academia officially concludes the journey of hero Izuku Midoriya with the conclusion of the final season. He successfully protected the world from All For One and Tomura Shigaraki even at the price of One For All. Deku may be quirky now, but he remains a powerful hero with the combat knowledge and experience needed to use his new mechanical armor.
With the arrival of the 2026 winter anime season My Hero Academia will return with MHA: Vigilantes Season 2, where the main character is not Deku, but Koichi Haimawari. And speaking of Koichi, the vigilante made unexpected cameos after Deku's climactic battle with the villains. That said, will Deku get a cameo and appear in MHA: Vigilantes?
Is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Canon?
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spin-off show set to release in April 2025 with a new main protagonist. But is it canon to the main series?
Izuku Midoriya is not involved in MHA: Vigilantes
Deku is still a child during MHA: Vigilantes
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes returns for Season 2 this Winter 2026, shortly after the final season of the original series ended. As fans know, the main character of the MHA prequel is Koichi Haimawari, a college student who enjoys doing heroic work even without a legitimate hero license. Instead of Deku leading MHA: Vigilantes, it's Koichi who completes small jobs and performs heroic deeds with his Slide and Glide quirk.
Naturally, many fans are curious to see Izuku Midoriya in MHA: Vigilantes. With Deku's story now over, fans are looking for his potential appearance in the new MHA: Vigilantes Season 2 trailers. However, due to the timeline of Koichi's story, fans won't see Deku just yet. After all, the Vigilante prequel takes place about five to six years before Deku's enrollment at UA High School.
For now, it's best for anime fans to go back to Izuku Midoriya's journey in the previous seasons My Hero Academia instead of looking for it in MHA: Vigilantes. The prequel is all about Koichi Haimawari and his vigilante work in the heroic society alongside Pop Step and Knuckleduster. While there will be familiar faces in the prequel, Deku will not be among them.
MHA: Vigilantes removed Izuku Midoriya's Cameo
The Subtle Ways Deku Exists in MHA: Vigilantes
Since MHA: Vigilantes exists in the same universe as the original My Hero Academia series, it's only natural that fans will notice subtle connections between Deku and the prequel. The first is Deku's mother, Inko Midoriya, who appeared in the pilot episode of the anime. At the time, Koichi was doing his patrols in Naruhata when he helped the lost Inko and gave her directions.
Furthermore, the narrator of MHA: Vigilantes is none other than Daiki Yamashita, the same Japanese voice actor for Izuku Midoriya. Not to mention, the manga series usually gets promotional materials featuring Deku. Deku often appears in other chapters of MHA: Vigilantes, asking questions about vigilantism along with other characters and professional heroes.
If my actions can save any of them… then I have to do something. – Izuku Midoriya
Unfortunately, Official portrait of Deku in MHA: Vigilantes Chapter 3 never made it into the first season of the anime adaptation. He was supposed to appear with All Might, but they didn't make it, probably due to the episode's pacing and plot consistency. If Deku appeared early in MHA: Vigilantes, the timeline would be confusing for viewers. However, this does not mean that the anime will not include this scene in future installments.
Deku could still appear in MHA: Vigilantes
Deku's possible appearance may not be what fans expect
Like a face My Hero Academiait's always possible for Deku to appear in MHA: Vigilantes. Like Koichi, he might get a cameo to please the fans who constantly seek his presence.
However, due to his lack of involvement in the plot, Deku's appearance may not be what fans expect. He could only appear as a bystander, watching Koichi and the other vigilantes in action. The anime may even show him inside his home, in front of his computer, watching his favorite All Might rescue clip. That said, fans shouldn't expect Deku to appear in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
