GPU Prices to Rise 'Significantly' in 2026, Report Claims

As if building a gaming PC wasn't already hard enough, a reliable insider has claimed that both Nvidia and AMD are looking to raise the price of GPUs “significantly” this year.

Over the past few years, gaming as a hobby has gotten a lot more expensive, as production costs have risen, so have the prices of consoles and the games themselves. 2025 is when the dam really burst as the cost of almost everything began to skyrocket, from the Switch 2 and its physical releases to the depressing arrival of $80 games.

Console gaming has been hit hard in recent months, but it's especially noticeable for PC users as GPUs, RAM, memory and storage have become much more expensive, largely due to the emergence and investment in AI. As if that wasn't bad enough, a new report claims that AMD and Nvidia are set to raise GPU prices “significantly” over the next year.

GPU prices could start rising again as early as this month

Expect costs to rise throughout 2026

Nvidia RTX 5090

As Eurogamer pointed out, this news comes courtesy of Newsis, which recently announced that both Nvidia and AMD are set to raise the price of GPUs in 2026. According to the report, Nvidia and AMD plan to begin a “gradual price adjustment” over the next few months, with AMD's price increases as early as this month and Nvidia's likely to start in February.

The increased prices will reportedly hit consumer GPUs first, including Nvidia's GeForce RTX 50 and AMD's Radeon RX 9000. Newsis points out that the RTX 5090, which launched in early 2025 for $1,999, could end up costing as much as $5,000, a price that is mostly too expensive. so players can't afford the hardware.

Of course, the price hike shouldn't come as much of a surprise considering everything that's been going on in recent months. GPUs are already more expensive because of how powerful they are, but the rise of generative artificial intelligence has placed more importance on the technology than ever before, making it much more difficult to get consumer GPUs because the demand is so high.

As if paying five grand for an RTX 5090 wasn't bad enough, it's very likely that these price hikes will only get worse in the future, especially as Xbox and PlayStation look to introduce new generations of hardware. AI has already made the world a worse place in most ways, but it's having a particularly noticeable impact on gaming before 2026 even gets underway.
