Bug Pokemon have never been the type everyone is clamoring for, but Pokemon Legends: ZA and its Mega Dimension DLC sure got a makeover! After decades in the background, bug types have proven to be most useful as party members in Pokemon Legends: ZA.
With so many dual-types on the best Bug-type Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: ZA, you have plenty of ways to make the most of your Bug-types in battle. Stock up on their Mega Stones and make sure to teach them the best moves that Mabel gives you, and you'll have powerful fighters in no time with these Bug-type Pokémon.
Vivillion
You'll probably be fighting a few Scatterbugs and Spewpas early in Pokemon Legends: ZA, so you'll have your first Vivillion to help you through the game until you hit Wild Zone 13 and have access to some of the stronger bugs, but the real draw of evolving Vivillion is that you'll find tons of unique skins for Scale.
Pokemon Legends: ZA – Mega Dimension: The best fire Pokemon to have on your team
You don't have to be part of Team Flare to enjoy these Fire types.
As of the launch of the Mega Dimension DLC in December 2025, there are three patterns available for Vivillion. The Spewpa from Lumios evolves in Meadow Pattern, the Spewpa you get in the museum side mission gives Marine Pattern when it evolves, and the Mega Dimension DLC added Garden Pattern.
Data-miners have found information about Vivillion's remaining forms in the game's data, so keep your eyes peeled for new patterns to come in potential future DLC.

Golisopod, which debuted in the Alola region of the seventh generation Pokémon Sun and Moon, has been popular with Bug-type users for some time after we saw Guzma with it in the games story. It is a dual type through and through, but what secondary typing it receives depends on its form.
The standard evolution for a Golisopod is a dual Bug and Water type, but when you use a Mega Golisopod instead, the Water type is swapped out for Steel instead. As you might expect from a Pokemon with so much armor, Golisopod's high defense and special defense make it a strong Pokemon no matter what, but Mega Golisopod gets an attack boost that makes it one of the better options for bug types in Pokemon Legends: ZA and Mega Dimension.

Scyther, which you probably grabbed at night in Wild Zone 13, is already a strong fighter, but swapping it with a friend while it's holding Metal Coat will get you back Scizor, Bug, and dual-type Steel Pokemon instead. Grabbing a scizorite from a stone emporium and giving it to a Pincer Pokemon after returning it gives you a real fighter.
Scizor already has a very solid Attack stat to make good use of his physical moves like lunge or Iron Head, but Mega Scizor has two buffs worth noting. Not only is his offense noticeably better, but he has almost the same defense time and a half as before. Any physical fights you face will be leagues easier if you go through the effort of replacing and evolving Scizor!
Cleaver
However, if you'd rather evolve your Scyther into something a little newer and more unique, then you might want to consider exposing it to Black Augerite in Hyperspace Lumiose and instead evolve it into a Legends: Kleavor exclusive Pokémon, the Ax Pokémon.
The best Pokemon of each type in Pokemon Legends: ZA
It's not just the strongest Electric-type Pokemon that shocks you too.
Instead of Steel for his dual typing like Scizor would have received, Kleavour is a Bug and a rock type with a harder body. Although he didn't get his Mega Evolution form in the Mega Dimension DLC he was added to, his Attack stat is already one of the most impressive, so you'll have no problem sweeping enemies with physical moves like Rock Blast or Lunge.
Beedrill

Beedrill, one of the original Bug-type Pokemon from the iconic first generation of games, has always been a favorite with insect fans. It's dual typing with Bug's agility and Poison's sick sting, meaning you'll have plenty of powerful physical moves with Beedrill that are sure to deal damage before you even let the Mega go.
Be sure to focus on physical damage with Beedrill in both his base form and Mega Evolution form, as his already weak special attack stats drop even further when he goes Mega.
As part of the game's main story, you'll be facing the Rogue Mega Beedrill, so you know its stats aren't anything to mess with, especially that speed stat. Those giant drilling hands are sure to deal damage, and with resistance to five types (with fighting and grass types doing even less damage than the already paltry HP loss from Poison, Bug, and Fairy types), Beedrill is now and always has been one of the best Bug-type Pokemon.

Another classic Pokemon from the first generation that has stood the test of time to reappear around Wild Zone 13 in Pokemon Legends: ZA, Pinsir is definitely one of the more iconic bug types in the Pokemon games. It doesn't evolve, but if you grab a Pinsirite from Quasartico Inc. HQ. and you let it go Mega, be sure to sweep with the Pokemon Stag Beetle.
Not only does he become a stronger physical attacker in his Mega form, but Mega Pinsir also gains an impressive increase in defense and speed stats. This makes her a fast, hard-hitting Pokemon that's hard to hit on the battlefield, so you're sure to see great results with your Pinsir!
Heracross

Like Pinsir from the same Wild Zone, Heracross won't evolve into the next Pokémon even after all these years of seeing older Pokémon gain evolutionary forms in later games, but it will definitely gain a strong performance thanks to its Mega Stone.
You can get Heracross at the beginning of Pokemon Legends: ZA by trading with a woman named Tracie as one of your side missions. He will give you his heracross names Bois in exchange for a Pikachu that you catch in Wild Zone Three.
As with most Bug-type Pokemon, Heracross is a good physical attacker even before its attack stat is increased to one and a half times its normal power with Mega Heracross. His dual typing between Bug and Fighting means you'll see good mileage with your Heracross remembering moves like Megahorn for opponents weak to Bug-types or Close Combat for situations where Fighting-type moves are better.
Genesct
If you've been a fan of Mythical Pokemon, then you're probably pretty happy to delve into all the crevices in the Mega Dimension DLC in search of your favorites, and that's exactly where you'll find Genesect, a dual Paleozoic Bug and Steel type Pokemon that has not one, but five unique forms.
What makes Genesect so interesting is its signature move, Techno Blast, which changes types depending on which Form you're using. Techno Blast is a normal move by default, but you can use it as an Electric move with Shock Drive Genesect, a Fire move as Burn Drive Genesect, an Ice move as Chill Drive Genesect, or a Water move from Douse Drive Genesect. Swap discs as needed to suit your team comp needs and get the most out of Genesect after you catch it!
