CI Games CEO addresses Lords of the Fallen 2 plagiarism allegations

Lords of the Fallen 2 Publisher CI Games is defending itself against accusations that it plagiarized the character design Elden Ring Nightreign after sharing an image from the upcoming soulslike action RPG online. Although there are some obvious similarities between the two characters, Lords of the Fallen 2 team members have receipts to prove they didn't steal the artwork.

Release in 2023 Lords of the Fallenwhich served as a successor to the 2014 game of the same name, received mixed to average reviews on the PlayStation 5, but was still impressive enough to turn a lot of heads in CI Games' direction. In August 2025 Lords of the Fallen 2 was revealed during the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation and was set to release in 2026, indicating that fans of the reboot have a lot to look forward to in the near future.

Lords of the Fall is not profitable after accumulating 5.5 million players.

Lords of the Fallen has hit 5.5 million players and is still not profitable

Despite building a massive audience since its launch, CI Games' Lords of the Fallen is struggling to be profitable for some strange reason.

Lords of the Fallen 2 proves that his artwork was not plagiarized

However, recently allegations of plagiarism have been leveled against CI Games Lords of the Fallen On January 7, the series' official Twitter account shared an image of an unnamed character model for the upcoming game. Fully clad in silver armor with blue cloth accents and a long, jagged blade slung over their shoulder, the character's description states that they are devoted to the moon goddess Menasilda, and that after “1000 years in the shadow of death” they have given up their path of peace in favor of the sword. While that sounds like a pretty unique description, the character design was quickly compared Elden Ring Nightreign's Wylder class, who similarly wears full silver armor with blue cloth accents and has a serrated blade.

The numerous initial comparisons from the public varied in intensity, with some simply noting the similarities between the two characters and others sounding like cries of plagiarism, with at least one person claiming “blatant theft” had occurred. However, a day after the series' official social media page first posted an image of the unnamed character, CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski addressed the issue with evidence that the design was not scrapped due to Elden Ring Nightreign. Tyminski publicly shared a private internal Slack message dated July 17, 2024, which shows a completed rendering of “HallowedBro” and includes a request for potential comments. With reference to that Elden Ring Nightreign was first announced in December 2024, nearly half a year after the Slack message was dated, Tyminski said it would be impossible for CI Games artists to steal the game's design.

While not much information has been shared about the unnamed figure, their design archetype is fairly common, as it is not unheard of for a heavily armored knight to wear a blue tabard or other pieces of cloth adornment. The details of this armor really stand out on the figure, including his multi-piece shoulders and chest plate, along with his wicked-looking full-face helmet that features five sharp-looking fins. There are some similarities to Wylder in these design choices, although he wears simpler, lighter spaulders and a one-piece breastplate, and his helmet is adorned with a pair of silver wings. Additionally, while their blades are incredibly similar to each other, they are different swords Lords of the Fallenmany of which have menacing-looking blades with jagged edges.

While the first game faced some challenges, the sequel seems to be gaining some traction in the soul-like community. Game trailer for Lords of the Fallen 2 presented at The Game Awards 2025 generated positive reactions from viewers and game fans who were looking forward to seeing them from all over the world. The sequel will feature a similar two-world format that was considered by many to be one of the best parts of the first game, and its dismemberment system promises to increase the visual display of brutality.
