It's hard to believe Pokemon Legends: ZA it came out three months ago, or that the Mega Dimension DLC came out just last month. It feels surreal because despite the many problems the game has, I've been enjoying it almost daily for all that time. Sure, I know that Pokemon Legends: ZA it's not perfect, and while I like it, I've had an even better time playing it Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet when they came out. I was addicted. The first time I put Gen 9 down was a few months after the last DLC was released. PLA it was just refreshing in every possible way even though i believe FOR to be a better game, the first one was funnier and cuter. So why do I think that?
I think after finishing the game Pokemon Legends: ZAContent, the game's main problem isn't tied to the smaller Pokedex, its gameplay loop, changed battle style or roguelike elements, and the repetitive nature of the Mega Dimension DLC. Instead, I think reality was the biggest culprit Pokemon Legends: ZA completely limit abilities. It probably did this to create a unified theme with Legends: Arceus or to ride the wave of its success, but I believe it was a fatal flaw.
Pokemon Gen 10 is basically confirmed to “steal” these legendaries: ZA Features
Pokemon Legends: ZA and its Mega Dimension DLC made many changes to the series' classic formula, and Gen 10 is sure to take advantage of these features.
Pokemon Legends: ZA said goodbye to abilities too soon
Why Pokemon Legends: ZA would be 9/10 with abilities
Pokemon's best abilities can be transformative for the series in incredible ways, such as Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Intimidate Incinerorar controlling the meta or Drizzle independently creating or destroying Rain teams. More importantly, even the worst abilities in the series are still fun or unusual in some way, and I think they're too big to Pokemon Legends: ZA and any future game to crop. As regards FOR On its own, I think the abilities would make it miles better, and here's why:
-
Rogue Mega Evolution boss fights could be made harder or more intense based on the random abilities of the Mega Pokémon involved.
-
Similarly, it would be more fun to explore Pokemon Legends: ZAHyperspace areas and wild zones with Pokemon with random abilities from a selection of their species. It would also be more beneficial because catching “repeat” mons with hidden abilities or a second ability wouldn't just be another step to completing Mable's quests or Hyperspace explorations.
-
Battle Trainers and Wild Alpha Pokémon v Legends: ZA it would be a better and more varied experience with in-game abilities, making each encounter more memorable and unique. Instead, these things can get there very quickly.
-
Training and catching Pokemon would make more sense in terms of team building, especially for battles like a level 100 Taunie/Urbain team.
-
Shinies would hold more weight and become a key replayability element for catching shiny Pokémon Legends: ZA which have different abilities to test them or maybe do it to collect them all.
-
There could have been a way for players to change abilities and ways to crush them like Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Ability Patch and Ability Capsule. This would make the endgame content more engaging overall.
-
Abilities could do Pokemon Legends: ZAThe best teams in ranked battles are more diverse and allow for even more Pokémon to be used. One could argue that the lack of ability already does that, but what if Pokemon Legends: ZADondozo has an in-game commander with no abilities, the playing field isn't exactly level.
These are just reasons why I believe they warrant the use of abilities in all Pokemon games going forward, even within Legends series, but I think those are the key reasons. In a way, the game acknowledges that abilities are too integral to the series as a whole to be discarded entirely, with a clear example coming from Mimikyu's Disguise ability, which is active even in FOR.
This ability allows Mimikyu to take damage of only 1/8 of his HP from the first attack that hits him, even though it would normally KO Mimikyu.
Since Pokemon like Mimikyu are synonymous with their abilities in terms of both gameplay and identity, there is a reason for the abilities to remain in the game. And to be honest, I think Pokemon Legends: ZAThe new Mega Evolutions would greatly benefit from having abilities instead of waiting Pokemon Champions to do it. Removes agency from FORand it makes the game less enjoyable.
