Hytale is taking one step towards fulfilling its promise
Now, Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme has good news for upcoming players, revealing that development costs for the game's first two years of support have already been secured. Simon also confirmed his previous promise that the game would be supported for a whopping ten years, which was great news for players Minecraftas this title has been heavily supported and grown since its first release in 2009. Probably the most impressive detail is that these first two years were funded entirely by pre-orders Hytalshowing the level of support the community has for the game.
In addition to the development funding announcement, Simon also revealed that the game's development team now has around 50 members. While it remains to be seen how the game will be received, gamers are on the verge of getting their hands on it Hytal will be officially launched on January 13, 2026.
Hytale is a rare comeback story
Hytal is a bright light in an unfortunate era of frequent game cancellations and developer studio closures. Only in 2025 major games like Perfect darkness, Black Pantherand Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link were all scrapped. Studios were far from exempt, development groups like Monolith Productions were shut down entirely, and jobs were cut across the industry during the year. Hytal it looked like it would be just one more casualty of 2025 when, ten years into its development, it was announced that the game was being canceled and that the studio would be shut down by Riot Games.
As you might expect, would-be fans were extremely saddened to hear of the cancellation, with many flocking to sign petitions to ask Riot Games to change their mind. Even an indie developer darling Stardew Valley spoke on the matter, explaining that while he was busy working on his own games, he was also open to the idea of helping save the game if a developer wanted to reach out. However, this was not necessary in the end.
Not every request to save a canceled game goes well Hytal a rarity as the game was successfully saved from being canceled entirely. Just under two months after it was announced that the game would be retired, Simon revealed that he is working to regain the rights to Hytaland by November he had confirmed that he had the IP rights for the game again. As a result, the game will officially be released in Early Access on January 13th.
Fans of the game seem to have been extremely excited to hear about its return, judging by the amount of funding the team managed to secure via pre-order. Although Hytal was in development for longer than originally planned, many players protested that all the work that was put into it simply went to waste and never made it to players. The developers are probably very pleased that the community came out and showed their support by actually buying the game.
