Battlefield 6 it may have huge buzz at launch, but it's certainly seen a fall in the months since its release. While it's true that every multiplayer game goes through peaks and valleys, the drop in players for this particular title is hard to ignore. From the disappointing 1st season to the controversial edit BF6With the Battle Royale mode coming and going, there have been many complaints about the game in recent months. And while platforms like BattlefieldThe official subreddit became cesspools of negativity, regularly complaining that the game was too much Cod– like maps lacking breathing space, real criticism needs to be made.
Battlefield 6Season 2 is under a lot of pressure to win back lost players, and there are plenty of things that can be done to make that happen. There are the usual requests, big and small, from a sea map to ribbons, while a more attractive battle pass would give players something to grind for. above all else Battlefield 6 could benefit from some large vehicle-centric maps and waves of nostalgia via the fan-favorite map remaster. Unfortunately, Season 2 seems to miss the mark on both of these points, despite coming close on both counts, which doesn't bode well for the next few months of the game's lifespan.
What's wrong with the Battlefield 6 Season 2 launch map?
Premature leaks about Battlefield 6 they suggested that Season 2 will once again only have 2 full maps, with one coming at launch and the other being released in season. Battlefield Studios has since revealed some of the maps it's working on via a blog post about testing them through Battlefield Labs, with the opening map of the season being called Contaminated. While first looks at the map were promising — it's visually stunning and reminiscent of the popular one Battlefield 1 Monte Grappa map — the gameplay has since been leaked on various social media platforms. And as is often the case lately BF6complaints began to pour in.
In the introductory clips for Contaminated, people noted that some of the objective's capture points were a sniper's paradise, offering little cover and looking very difficult to capture without a vehicle. This immediately gave players flashbacks to those who were largely hated Battlefield 2042which had to redesign several of its maps to include more coverage. Another issue that came up was the map's boundaries, as again players can't fly too high or too far beyond the boundaries, limiting the potential for interesting aerial battles and evasive strategies.
The lack of love for vehicle players continues in more leaked footage, as the Little Bird helicopter variation makes a welcome return in Battlefield 6no more jets will be available on the new map. This is a major scratch given how the Contaminated is set in an airbase, a location that should be perfect for this neglected vehicle type. The map will also be mid-sized, described as falling “between Eastwood and Mirak Valley” in terms of scale, continuing the trend BF6 avoid massive maps.
Even Battlefield 6's remaster selection is proving to be a mixed bag
Big map fans will finally get their wish in the form of a Battlefield 4 a map remaster that will make some changes to modernize the game. However, unlike fan-favorite maps like Paracel Storm, BF Studios is preparing its first map with the slightly more divisive Golmund Railway map. BF4 remaster. This led to heated debates on social media, with some players excited and others outraged that what they consider to be the “worst map” is the first piece. Battlefield 4 representation. There's definitely a bit of risk in not picking a fan favorite, as the following big maps would probably do better with the community if they were revived instead:
-
Caspian border
-
Attack on Karkand
-
Sinai Desert
-
Kharg Island
-
Dragon Pass
Disagreements on the Golmund Railway have been resolved Battlefield Community manager T0TALfps who advocated Golmund as a strong choice. He claims the map offers “evolving combat” and “rich opportunities for combo-weapon play”. There are still Golmund Railway servers 24/7 Battlefield 4the map has its fans, suggesting that its detractors could be a vocal minority. Still, BF6 needed a unanimous win with the remaster pick, so picking a more iconic map might have been a better decision. Something like Paracel Storm may have hit the big map and sea map requirements at the same time, but it looks like fans will have to continue to wait for the latter form of the game.
It is currently unclear whether the Golmund Railway is the third BF6 map for season 2, or if it will have a map slot in the season, though fans will no doubt be hoping the former is the case. It's described as a “multi-session project,” suggesting that it could be a departure and might not even come out in Season 2. The second Season 2 map could instead be an unrevealed original map.
Battlefield Labs could be the savior of season 2
Clearly, Battlefield 6Leaked looks at Season 2 (and confirmed plans for a remaster) haven't filled the community with confidence. There's still a chance that BF Studios has an ace up its sleeve—perhaps an exceptional Battle Pass, a return mode like Operations, or a three-map plan for Season 2—but right now there's a real fear that this new content drop will be more of the same. However, BF Studios allowing players to get their hands on both Contaminated and Golmund Railway through BF Labs testing is a big deal. So much for the discourse around Battlefield 6 has become repetitive and hateful, but now the community has a chance to be constructive and create two maps to their liking.
Contaminated playtests could be the perfect way for players to fight for greater air transport boundaries, map jets, and proper coverage of captured zones in Conquest mode. If feedback is given in a kind and professional manner, it is more likely to be heard. In addition, there is an even better chance that the Golmund Railway will hit the mark as there is time to run some tests. If players are worried about the game space getting smaller, they could say so. If they don't like how the vehicles are balanced on the map, that can be addressed. As T0TALfps mentioned, players will be involved in Golmund's early development process, so there's more room for sweeping changes than ever before. The players are finally getting a say in the formation Battlefield 6's maps, so while Season 2's offering is clearly not the perfect addition that some fans were hoping for, they do have potential.
