Hytale Update 2 is out now

Hytal has released its big update 2 with which players can jump into the fun right now and enjoy tons of new content. New Hytal the update includes tons of new customization options, a new item that allows players to cast necromancy spells on skeletal minions, and more.

HytalThe road to release was incredibly turbulent. The game began life as a Minecraft server in 2015 before it was developed for full release. After years of development, Riot Games was canceled in mid-2025 before original Hypixel Studios founder Simon Collins-Laflamme bought the game back from the studio. It launched into early access on January 13, 2026 and immediately found a massive audience. Hytal its initial success has already secured funding for years of development, but developer Hypixel Studios isn't resting on its laurels. It has already released two major updates not even two weeks after its initial release, with many more to come in the coming months.

Hytale's future plans are focused on expanding their RPG systems instead of adding Minecraft's deepest mechanic, and I'm totally fine with that.

HytalThe update 2 patch notes were revealed a few days ago and the update has officially launched in the game. Players now have access to a number of new customization options, including the ability to hide armor visibility at any time. This was one of the most requested Hytal features and Hypixel Studios wasted no time adding it to the game. There is also a new grimoire drop that allows players to raise skeletal minions from bone piles and add an element of necromancy to the game. The new item only has a chance to drop from a large Praetorian skeleton, and according to Hypixel founder Simon Collins-Laflamme, “related to the future magic system that we'll be working on in a future update.” There are plenty of small additions and quality-of-life changes, including a number of notable tweaks to how farming works in the game. Players should expect to see a lot more of these tweaks in future updates as Hypixel figures out the right balance for Hytalgameplay.

There is one corrective note that may go unnoticed but could have huge implications for the future. “WorldGen V2 was prepared for public documentation to help modders.” With its roots as a Minecraft server, Hytal was called “modders, for modders” by developer Hypixel. This one has certainly done well so far, with some pretty ridiculous ones Hytal the mods are already out after less than two weeks. With the game having a strong early momentum, there's no indication that the modders are going anywhere anytime soon. It's very cool to see that Hypixel is preparing official documentation that should help modders get a better handle on the game under the hood. While it may not seem like much now, in the long runthis could significantly affect the quality Hytal mods in the future.

Future Hytal it's just the beginning, and players can look forward to constant improvements for a long time to come. In the more immediate future, Hypixel Studios has already confirmed that Update 3 will enter pre-release next week, while also claiming that production is ramping up with several updates being worked on simultaneously. Hytal so far it has met all expectations and it will be exciting to see how it develops through the rest of 2026.

Gameplay and balance

  • Added a new item that allows the user to pick up skeletal minions from nearby bone piles.
  • Has a chance to fall from a large Praetorian skeleton.
  • Adamantite now requires a Thorium or Cobalt pickaxe to mine.
  • The mining and pickaxe progression has been adjusted.
  • Lower level pickaxes now deal much less damage to higher level ore blocks.
  • Upgrading to a higher quality pickaxe greatly reduces the number of hits needed.

  • More decorative light recipes have been added to the furniture bench.
  • The following NPCs will now drop Medium Hide instead of Light Hide:

  • Magma Toad has been modified.

  • This results in clear weather and limited fog, but only works in new creative worlds.
  • Major ore deposit refactor in all zones. –You'll need to explore new pieces of the old worlds to see this change.
  • This results in more ores, especially in the dungeons of the Devastated Lands.

Agriculture

  • Eternal crops no longer break on random weapon damage.
  • Increased lifespan of tilled soil.
  • Now it takes longer, 1.2 to 1.5 days.
  • Fixed soil decay under fully grown crops.
  • You can now hold torches while using the hoe and seeds.
  • Smashing fully grown perennials will drop their seeds back.
  • Harvested crops can now be placed on the ground while crouching.
  • Recipe requirement costs have been adjusted for hoes.
  • Hoes now unlock at various farm bench levels.
  • Copper is now Tier 2 instead of Tier 4.
  • Iron is now Tier 4 instead of Tier 8.
  • Thorium has been added at level 6.

UI / UX

  • Improved tooltips for editor block descriptions.
  • Tooltips will now display the color name when you hover over the color options in the Avatar Customization menu.
  • The visibility of the active slot of the active panel has been improved by increasing the contrast and adding a diamond indicator.
  • This makes it easier to see an active hotbar slot in brighter environments like Howling Sands.
  • Memory categories are now sorted alphabetically when viewed through “Heart of Orbis”.
  • Scripted improvements to brush quality.
  • Added missing items to filters and removed invalid blocks from filters.
  • Fixed various bugs in existing scripted brushes.
  • Added decorations and cave brushes.
  • Removed redundant scripted brushes.
  • Updated the JumpIfBlockType node to use a single offset instead of a list of offsets.
  • Inventory interaction update.
  • Better double-click handling, now you can click faster.
  • Shift + Clicking on armor will now directly equip it if there is currently no armor in that slot.
  • Added QERT hotkeys for inventory “quick actions” (place all, pull all, quick stack and sort).
  • Shortcuts now appear in the tooltip when you hover over “quick action” buttons such as “Sort items by type (T)”.
  • Added “FPS counter overlay” option to settings menu.
  • This can be found under General > User Interface.
  • If this option is enabled, the current FPS will be displayed in the upper right corner of the game.
  • They made various improvements to player tags.
  • Player markers are now displayed on the compass.
  • Removed “Player: ” prefix from player markers on the map.
  • Player names are always drawn on the map.
  • Added toggle buttons for map/compass visibility in map player list.

  • Updated UpdateConfig in HytaleServerConfig with fields to enable updates, check intervals, alert preferences, patch line selection, backup options, and auto apply modes. Includes support for serialization and getter/setter methods.
  • Added new shutdown reason ShutdownReason.UPDATE to indicate when the server should be restarted to apply the rolling update.
  • Added new /update commands and detailed server messages for checking, downloading, applying, and managing updates, including player alerts and auto-apply alerts.
  • Updated the release workflow to include startup scripts (start.sh, start.bat).
  • We've improved shadow rendering and fixed various issues.
  • Fixed “select block” middle click when hotbar is full in creative mode.

  • Refilling containers now targets the nearest block of water, rather than requiring you to aim for the block behind/under the water.

  • Fixed glasses textures caused by cosmetic color inheritance on their reflections.
  • Added world map teleportation permissions.
  • It prevents players from sending packets to the server and teleporting anywhere they want without surgery.

  • Fixed sending player tag updates when the map is not open.
  • Fixed flickering of player markers when hovering over the map.
  • Other players' names are more readable on the map when zoomed in.
