Cyberpunk 2077 he had a notoriously volatile relationship with the public. Before its release, it was often hailed as an immediate masterpiece, an RPG from the prestigious The Witcher 3 developers who would take the industry by storm. Well, it certainly caused a storm, but perhaps not the one that optimistic CD Projekt Red fans expected.
Despite one of the most dramatic and difficult starts in gaming history, Cyberpunk 2077 was eventually honed into a polished, fun, and replayable action RPG. Much of what was great about the game at launch, such as the character writing, mission design, and the Night City atmosphere itself, became more apparent after various bugs and performance issues were ironed out, but CDPR went much further.
Cyberpunk 2077 spoilers ahead
The developer added a lot of new content to the game while overhauling a number of systems, although the peak of these improvements came around the game's release. Phantom Liberty The DLC that arrived with the 2.0 transformation update. Phantom Liberty was definitely something of a victory lap Cyberpunkwhich has come so far in the years since its release, but was actually maybe too good: now a lot of players (myself included) are sad that there won't be more DLC for the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 could have a second DLC based on the moon
In the summer of 2024, Insider Gaming reported that files had been leaked about a second Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, one based on the moon. The moon became a ghost Cyberpunk 2077 canon, somehow hanging over everything – literally and figuratively. Two of Cyberpunk 2077The endings feature the Moon in a significant capacity, a recurring motif Cyberpunk: Edgerunnersand it's supposed to be the next Corpo shadow phase, beyond what we've already seen Cyberpunk 2077.
As Earth became less habitable and more competitive, CyberpunkThe Euro Space Agency sought to expand its influence into the black expanse of space, thus colonizing the Moon, which is often referred to as Luna. Cyberpunk tradition. Luna has two major urban settlements, Tycho and Copernicus, both of which are very advanced. Although their population is small – the Luna colonies total about 58,000 people. Cyberpunk 2077 ongoing – they are self-sufficient, subsisting on underground hydroponic gardens and massive reservoirs of lunar ice. And of course, goliath corporations like Arasaka and Millitech also have a strong presence and influence in these colonies.
Tycho and Copernicus are technically owned and operated by the European Space Agency, but like many of them CyberpunkCorporate control seems to run much deeper.
Moon is the obvious next step for Cyberpunk 2077 after Phantom Liberty
The Phantom Liberty Extended DLC Cyberpunk 2077world by order. While the base game's campaign involves global forces, its scope is ultimately limited to a single metropolis: Night City. Phantom Liberty expanded that scope to include the entire New United States of America, his narrative squarely focused on powers far beyond Night City and its own tumultuous history. The next order could probably be the whole globe, but even bigger and more decisive would be space – the final frontier itself.
That would also make sense, given the ending Phantom Liberty. In the climax of the DLC, V must decide whether to help Songbird escape to the moon or hand her over to Solomon Reed. Regardless of what the player chooses, the expansion uses the moon as a symbol of the future: Songbird's last hope is not to escape to a country outside of NUSA control, but to the moon. The same can be said about Cyberpunk 2077's Sun ending, which culminates with V continuing his journey through space. IN Cyberpunk 2077As in the real world, space is often representative of endless possibilities and growth.
Cyberpunk 2077's Allegedly Scrapped Moon DLC Might Be Better If Reworked For Project Orion
Cyberpunk 2077's sequel, currently known as Project Orionis mostly a mystery at this point. It has been rumored to be set in Chicago or another major city, but nothing has been confirmed. A game that takes place entirely in space or on the moon might be a bit too much of a departure, but including the moon as a substantial and explorable area, even though it's much smaller than the main map, wouldn't jump the shark too much.
There's more than enough to support one or more of the interesting storylines going on Cyberpunkthe rendering of the Earth's Moon and the satellite is so significant Phantom Liberty, Edgerunnersand the minds of so many fans seem too ripe to explore. If CDPR is believed to have started work on DLC based on the moon for Cyberpunk 2077even if it never made it past the concept stage, then it's easy to imagine how the studio could turn this scrapped expansion into something special. Project Orion.
