Statement on developer Hytale's “I Have No Regrets” issues with the game's Early Access launch

One of the developers of sandbox RPG Hytale talks about the game's Early Access launch and what it took to get the game to a playable state.

Hytale Dev Details New Update Plans

Now the CEO of Hypixel Studios, Simon Collins-Laflamme, shared a tweet explaining this future Hytal updates will work a little differently in an effort to speed up production. The team intends to apply the patchline before the release Hytal be more “adventurous” with weekly updates that introduce new features and iterations. Collins-Laflamme warns that the weekly pre-release updates will be “unstable in terms of design”, but this will be communicated to players when there are known issues. The CEO assured the players Hytal has automatic world backups, but recommends that players back up their own data as well if they intend to use the same worlds in the patchline prior to release. Once the development team is “comfortable” with the pre-release state of the update, which may take one or more update iterations, they will announce the official release and its schedule. Players will also be notified before full updates to ensure mods and servers are as ready as they can be.

Collins-Laflamme notes that players shouldn't expect too much in the first week of this new update system as the team adjusts to this new method. Ultimately, we hope that developers can spend more time working on updates and their incoming features instead of spending so much time focusing on shipping them. Players should expect official releases to arrive every 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the status of pre-release updates. Either way, hotfixes will continue to be released as needed, ensuring the smoothest possible experience for players, whether they only engage with final builds, preview builds, or both. In general, Hytal Players reacting to the news seem to be receiving it favorably, and are especially grateful to the developers for their transparency.

Hytale, the game that almost wasn't

Hytal is a rare case among games these days, and not least because of the developers' openness about the game's update process. The CEO called Hytal a “perpetual game”, stating that it will continue to receive updates “as long as gameplay exists”. Before running it in Early Access Hytal has already secured the first two years of funding for its further development through early access pre-orders only. While it's still early days, it's a tremendous comeback story for a game that was almost completely canceled.

Fans Minecraft and the Hypixel server that ultimately led the development of the game were extremely upset to hear this Hytal was canceled in the middle of 2025. Even the developer Stardew Valley expressed his opinion on the matter, stating that if there was anything he could do to help, he was open to the idea. However, Simon Collins-Laflamme was able to save the game by buying back the rights and released the game to eager fans shortly after. While this meant Hytal After launching in its unfinished state, fans seem pretty happy with the game and its potential, and this reaffirmed commitment to updates and keeping players informed is promising.
