A fan of the Overwatch voice acting champions is requesting a design change for the new hero Anran

Fareeh, Overwatch content creator and voice actor for Anran publicly supported the community's call for Blizzard to consider redesigning their new hero's appearance. The Overwatch The streamer-turned-voice actor stepped up to support the community's desire to see the modifications made to Anran's design.

Blizzard recently surprised its fanbase with a series of massive shakeups Overwatch 2least of all by dropping 2 and renaming back to simple Overwatch. The start of his first year story, a sub-role, a redesigned user interface and five brand new heroes are just some of the main features coming in the next season on February 10th.

Three heroes have just left the clutches of Overwatch… And even more have just joined

Several key Talon operatives are officially leaving the organization, but even more Overwatch heroes are joining in light of the rise of Vendetta.

Anran's voice actor hopes Overwatch will rework the new hero

However, one of these new heroes in particular has drawn some criticism from fans. Anran Ye, the fiery elder sister of the aquatics Overwatch support hero Wuyang debuts as a damage hero in Reign of Talon Season 1. This means her design hasn't resonated with much of the community, leading them to request that Blizzard fix aspects of her model. What's more, Fareeha, Anran's voice actor, stepped up to champion the cause.

Anran is available in Quick Play for her Heroic Trial from now until February 10th when she officially launches.

When Anran was first revealed for Overwatch during Wuyang's story, she had an atypical face and nose shape that deviated from common beauty standards, giving her a wild and mature expression. Additionally, her clothing was sporty and grounded, matching her determined, tomboyish demeanor. Conversely, her official design features a softer face shape, small nose, and softer eyes that make her look more like Wuyang's shy younger sister, if not Juno or Kiriko's sibling. What's more, her outfit, while unique in its own right, is much more feminine and ornate than most players would expect Anran to wear.

“It was a precedent set in her comic book and movie 'Elemental Kin,'” Fareeha said in a statement. “There was an unspoken promise that said 'we're going to challenge the beauty standards that plague the industry'… And I think because of that precedent, people feel understandably disappointed.” Fareeha claimed that Anran's model has a “look that doesn't match her personality”, leading her to hope that Blizzard might modify her in the future.

Even before being cast as the voice of Anran, Fareeha was a prolific artist, storyteller and content creator for games including Overwatch and Marvel Rivals. With nearly 150,000 followers on Twitch alone, Fareeha is well known in the Overwatch commonwealth.

The fact that Fareeha used her significant platform as a streamer and influence in Blizzard as a voice actor was inspiring to her fans. “This is a hill worth dying on, worth talking about,” she said, adding that she made sure Blizzard listened to the community's concerns. While there is no guarantee that this will lead to a change in Anran's model, Fareeha advocates a “version [Anran] that we all wished' is more likely than it would otherwise be.

Criticism of other Overwatch hero designs

In the middle of the return of the shooter hero, criticism Overwatch Hero designs seem to be his main problem. Many female heroes released in Overwatch 2 era, including Kiriko, Juno, Freya, and Vendetta, have been criticized as being too cute or pretty, similar to recent complaints about Anran. Even the other four heroes are coming Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1 caught some flak from the community, from Domina's younger face and Jetpack Cat's oddly human eyes to Emre and Mizuki looking like they could be heroes in Valorant.

either way Overwatch is drastically ramping up its hero production, with five more heroes planned for 2026, one in each two-month season. Players will have to see what these characters look like and judge whether Overwatch he “breaks those molds” to “explore the limits of what it means to be good” and “what it looks like to be heroic,” as Fareeha put it.
