A newly released MMORPG game Project: Gorgon he already faced many problems at the beginning, the fights in the city of Serbule were prominent among his players. First released in early access in 2018, Project: Gorgon is the brainchild of two industry veterans in the MMORPG space, Eric Heimburg and the late Sandra Powers, previously known for her work on Asheron's Call. Despite funding issues and Powers' departure in 2025, Elder Game developers pushed through and successfully pushed the game out of early access and into full release this month.
In a short time on the market Project: Gorgon became quite successful on Steam, climbing to over 2,000 players after sitting in the hundreds during the early access period. The game promises immersive gameplay that encourages players to explore and interact with the game world rather than providing quest markers to guide their path. Project: Gorgon looks set to carve out a niche in a crowded market with an old-school charm reminiscent of an earlier era of the MMORPG genre.
8 MMORPGs with the best daily grind
Daily activities and quests are a staple of many MMORPGs, but not all of them can make the grind as fun as the following titles.
Project: Gorgon players struggle with lag and frame rate drops
On Project: Gorgon subreddit, several users have reported performance issues while playing in the city of Serbule. User Pemocity406 noted that after initially averaging 122 FPS in every area of the game, they recently started averaging 28 FPS in the center of Serbul. Pemocity406 notes that they haven't changed any in-game settings and the frame drops are not related to weather effects, as they regularly reach over 100 FPS even when it's raining in-game.
Another user, FurlaniJr, also noticed that the framerate drops while in Serbul and posted his own thread on Reddit to ask if other players were experiencing such issues. Meanwhile, user Demoth posted a thread describing his experience with the lag, noting that the constant freezing of the game made it nearly impossible to engage enemies and caused several unwarranted deaths. Comments across every thread suggest that server performance and hardware changes are to blame, which offers some leeway since the game is an independently developed MMORPG.
The Elder Game may not have been aware of the mere interest in the spiritual successor of the immensely influential Asheron's Calland therefore he was surprised by the peak in the number of players. The team was very aware of the server issues Project: Gorgoncreating a second server to help offset the sudden increase in players. However, apparently most of the players migrated to this second server, which naturally contributed to its overcrowding and the resulting problems. However, the team is working on a third server that would offer additional breathing room while fixing issues plaguing the already available servers.

Considering the game's long development in Early Access and the hurdles it faced after reaching full release, it's impressive that developer Elder Game saw the project through to the finish line. Currently, the team is working hard to keep up with the game's rapidly growing player base, and these lag and performance issues shouldn't persist for too long. Project: Gorgon should quickly get back on track and continue to carve its path as an exciting old-school MMORPG.
