What does an open world adventure RPG title look like? Hytal without the ability to meet, fight, and potentially domesticate a wide variety of animals while you're out and about in its beautifully colorful pixelated world? Since the planet is divided into biomes called zones, you will find unique animals in almost every one of them.
Some animals are friendly to your avatar right off the bat, but others may be more ferocious and willing to attack you when you venture out from your starting point and encounter them. Between spawn locations and loot drops, here's what you need to know about the animals in Hytale.
Updated February 19, 2026: Now that Hytale has received its first major update in Early Access, we have a proper way to tame animals! So we're updating our guide to help you tame every animal in Hytale, and updating the formatting of the tables we have to help you find each animal a little easier.
Overview of animals
How to catch and raise animals
Like many similar open-world sandbox games, Hytale features a variety of animals across different zones in the game, each of which acts as a unique biome and offers plenty of animals that you won't find anywhere else.
The best sandbox games
The sandbox genre covers dozens of different games. Here's our list of the best titles to enjoy on consoles and PC.
As you explore the world you have created, you will meet many different animals, some singular and some in crowds which will often act as a pack. The animals may not see you right away, so you have the option of sneaking up behind them to one of them fight them kill them for their resource/loot losses or k tame them and use them as a riding horse or farm animal after building a base.
Lots of animals fall valuable resourceslast but not least are the hides and skins you'll need for construction projects and some of the most impressive tools in the game. Unfortunately, you will have to kill a lot of these animals for their meat and skin, but there are tons of them renewable resources such as eggs and milk which can be obtained by simply interacting with the animals that give these resources while holding the correct tool. Use the tools on these animals to collect without killing.
How to tame and mount animals
Animal taming is easy for Hytale after the first update, now we can more efficiently tame and catch animals than we ever were! Whereas previously you needed to craft a feed sack at your farmer's crafting bench and lure them back into a fenced area they couldn't jump over to leave, now simply approach a tame animal in Hytale and press F tame it.
It can take a while to get close to these animals time and repetitionbecause they may run away a bit at first until they start to trust you. The animal will produce a thought bubble over his head when you try to interact, which will show you his favorite food. If you try it tame the animal while holding its favorite foodinstead, you'll see them eat your food and give the option stroke it instead.

Animal Behavior: Can You Think?
Animals that have seen you will have exclamation mark above their heads. When you encounter animals in the wild, they will have one of the few that are different types of behavior this will determine how they react when they see you.
- Passive animals don't care that you're around, even if they can see you. They will have an exclamation point, but generally they are not bothered by your presence and will not change their behavior with you there, and if you fight them, they will try to run away.
- Defensive the animals can be a bit wary of you, but they tend to stay alert rather than attack directly. If attacked, they are ready to defend themselves.
- Hostilemeanwhile, the animals will attack as soon as they spot you. It's best to sneak up on them if you're trying to get a leg up, which will likely be a combat situation ahead, as these guys aren't waiting for you to make the first move.
Predators and prey
Finally, as you make your way through each biome in the game, you may come across the occasional animal bone or carcass that you don't remember leaving there yourself. This is because in every biome you go through in Hytale you will find a a dangerous predator that can and will eat smaller animalsas well as being instantly hostile to your player avatar when you lock eyes.
If you are capturing animals to live back on your farm, the presence of predators means you will the need to create a secure fence for your livestock that these predators cannot jump over. They are able to span blocks of one height but place the fence two blocks high around your captive animals should keep them safe.

All Animals In Hytale
In the tables below, we've noted every animal we've encountered in Hytale, where we've found them, and what kind of resources they offer, all broken down by zone to help you find what you're looking for faster.
Some animals are located in multiple zones and do not fit neatly into our table. Owls and wolves can be found in both zone one and three, and a mouse can be seen in pretty much any zone.
