One LEGO fan has created an incredibly detailed model of SpongeBob SquarePants for LEGO Ideas, and many fans think it has a good chance of approval. Thanks to the Ideas program, talented LEGO builders have a chance to have their creations considered official sets if they receive 10,000 votes from the community.
As one of the most popular cartoons of all time, SpongeBob SquarePants unsurprisingly, it has been featured in all manner of merchandise, including official LEGO sets. From 2006 to 2012, Nickelodeon partnered with the LEGO Group to release products based on Bikini Bottom and its aquatic inhabitants. Fans can choose sets that include the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob's Pineapple, and even The Chum Bucket. While new official sets based on the franchise are not currently being produced, some LEGO builders have created their own custom creations and shared them with the community.
LEGO Ideas SpongeBob SquarePants model concept
One of those builders is vixtop and they recently shared their LEGO Ideas build with the community. Officially titled “SpongeBob SquarePants – Display Model,” the design perfectly captures the character's enthusiasm and captures his iconic shape. Highlights include a LEGO fan who used a wide selection of bricks to create the undersea character's smile and big eyes. They also gave SpongeBob his iconic square pants along with striped socks and black shoes. In addition to replicating the character design, vixtop included several additions. Specifically, the suggested set included a Krusty Krab chef's hat, a Krabby Patty, and a spatula. An alternative arm could also be attached to hold kitchen utensils.

It's worth noting that this SpongeBob build is just a concept at this point, with vixtop sharing a render of the design. Nevertheless, this digital mockup provided an excellent look at the potential model, which uses 1,221 pieces, including accessories. According to the description on LEGO Ideas, “SpongeBob SquarePants – Display Model” is roughly 10.2 inches tall. However, after including the hat, it is 15.8 inches. The post has over 9,500 upvotes so far, with many users leaving their thoughts in the comments. In particular, fans pointed out how the concept resembled the Build-A-Bob set from 2006. However, their own design included more detail, making it look more like the character in the official animated film. In the comments section, vixtop also mentioned that they are trying to buy all the necessary bricks to try to build the design in real life.
Thanks to the LEGO Ideas program, inventive builders like vixtop have the opportunity to get recognition for their work and earn some cash in the process. For example, another fan recently created a “working” toaster for LEGO Ideas. The clever design simulated the process of toasting bread and won an award at Atlanta BrickCon.
More official LEGO products coming soon
It will be interesting to see what other LEGO Ideas sets appear in the coming weeks as creative builders continue to come up with unique concepts. However, many official sets are already coming in 2026. PokemonLEGO themed sets are released on February 27, while products based on Star Wars, Batmanand more to come in March. While LEGO fans will have to wait and see if SpongeBob SquarePants when they see the next official product release, there will be plenty of other sets to keep them busy.
