Fallout 76 Season 24's coolest feature involves Bigfoot, but not in the way you think

from day one Fallout 76 has no shortage of interesting cryptids for players to encounter, and the list has only grown over time. There's the cute but deadly Mothman, who has inspired a passionate cult (one that many players wish they could properly join), the hulking Grafton Monster, ferocious Wendigos, and the intimidating Sheepsquatch, to name a few. However, there is one Cryptid Fallout 76 players have been begging to see since the game's release over 8 years ago, and when Season 24 arrives, they'll finally get their wish. Bigfoot is on its way, and Bethesda's attention to detail will make it just that little bit more special than its peers.

Fallout 76The concept of Bigfoot is a long time coming. The earliest mention of Sasquatches comes from the fourth issue of Backwoodsman, one of several collector's magazines in Fallout 76as well as members of the Mothman cult who acknowledge its existence via a note players can find in Point Pleasant Church. Then Season 16 brought a bigfoot carpet that further hinted at the creature's debut, while the big Burning Springs update all but confirmed it was coming by adding various Bigfoot tracks to the open world. 2025's Letter from the Directors even included a few sneaky nods to Bigfoot, and now that the creature's arrival is nearing, it's worth celebrating Bethesda for a unique interaction involving the animal and photography.

Fallout 76 Fallout 5 Timeline

Unless someone has been living under a rock, they will be well aware of the endless real debate between skeptics and believers when it comes to Bigfoot. One side points to strange noises, existing photographs, and the vast amount of wilderness in the United States as evidence that Bigfoot must be out there. On the other hand, doubters are quick to write off strange noises like other animals, pointing out that the images are always blurry and out of focus, leaving them plenty of room for fakes (not to mention all the well-documented fakes that support this argument). Video games like Grand Theft Auto we've made fun of these Bigfoot debates several times, and it seems Bethesda is doing the same with their take on the monster.

In addition to using Fallout 76ProtoSnap Deluxe Camera for taking pictures for daily tasks or setting up custom loading screens, players can roam Appalachia and collect photos of the many creatures of the wasteland. Normally, these photos are crystal clear, but when it comes to Bigfoot, that's not the case. Those who have encountered Bigfoot through Fallout 76The company's test server found that every time it took a picture of Bigfoot, it was blurry. As shown in the figure above from Fallout Fandom wiki, details such as Bigfoot's face are impossible to make out, meaning it could be any other monster roaming the wasteland. Whether it's just a clever joke from Bethesda or an innuendo, right FalloutThe Bigfoot version has a special ability to blur recordings, serving as a wonderful little touch that honors Bigfoot's lore and helps set it apart from all the other Cryptids.

This Fallout 76 The cryptid also disappears in a cloud of black smoke if not killed quickly. Perhaps this is another way for Bethesda to give the whole Bigfoot mythology “sense”, as a creature that could teleport at will would explain how it went undiscovered for so long.

Much like the search for the real Bigfoot has resulted in decades of sasquatch hunting groups and the media following their search, Vault residents who want to find Bigfoot will have to put in some work. Bethesda's version of Bigfoot has a chance to appear as an uninvited guest at the end of the following Fallout 76 events (although there's also a chance that another strange creature could appear instead, making Bigfoot even rarer):

  • Beasts of Burden

  • Campfire tales

  • Free range

  • Graham's Meat Cook

  • Invaders from Beyond

  • Moonshine Jamboree

  • One violent night

  • Primal Cuts

  • Safe and sound

  • Big flower

  • Mothman Equinox

From Fallout 76Bigfoot always spawns as a four-star enemy when it appears, cryptid hunters can expect an uphill battle where all participants in the public event must work together to target the furry beast. He'll probably drop some quality loot commensurate with his star level, so players should put down their cameras when he appears and make sure to fire a few shots at him. After all, those images will be useless anyway, if the players don't want blurry ones Fallout 76 loading screen for some reason.
