Like everyone else I adore God of War games, new and old. Sure, I prefer the stronger writing of the Norse Saga and a more mature version of Kratos, but there's something to appreciate about the classic entries as well. And with the Norse saga getting more love through the upcoming God of War Amazon series, I'm glad that Santa Monica is doing its best to ensure that the classic games remain relevant through the upcoming remakes. I love to play flashy, visually stunning versions of the original God of War trilogy as soon as they drop, and frankly, I can't wait to see the Hydra and Poseidon battles on the PlayStation 5 (or more likely the PS6, as development has only just kicked into high gear). However, while I'm glad these remakes are happening, there's one franchise I'd rather see remade sooner rather than later God of War: LittleBigPlanet.
original LittleBigPlanet was unanimously praised by critics (as evidenced by its astounding 95 aggregate score on Metacritic) for its formula of gameplay, creation and sharing, which left players with an endless world of opportunities after completing the enchanting story mode. Unfortunately, the player-created levels from this 18-year-old classic are no longer accessible, and the same goes for the content created in its two sequels. This is the main reason why I would rather see a remake than the older one God of Waras a version LBP that still exist seem incomplete to me, though that's not the only reason I'd prefer it. Not only do I feel like the first three God of War the games hold up quite well even by today's standards (esp 3given its PS4 remaster) but God of War remains relevant as an IP, with more games undoubtedly on the way. God of War will thrive with or without the planned makeovers, but LittleBigPlanet? It doesn't look good and it's a real shame.
LittleBigPlanet 2my personal favorite entry in LBP series, it has a 92 on Metacritic, which shows how consistently good these games were in their heyday.
LittleBigPlanet's Future is in Limbo
Sadly, with each passing day, she feels more and more certain that Sackboy is in danger of joining Jak and Daxter and Rapper Parappa at the PlayStation retirement home. Sure, more style games Sackboy: The Great Adventure could theoretically happen, but the fun game didn't set any records with its sales numbers and flopped when ported to PC. Plus game of the year winner Astro Bot it exists now, which immediately fills the void Sackboy's Big Adventure she would leave if it really is one and done. On top of all that, I really enjoyed it Sackboy's Big Adventure – it was one of the many, many platinum trophies I've won over the years – it wasn't LittleBigPlanet.

Sackboy's Big Adventure lacked user-generated content LBP it was built on, and that's why I don't actively play it years after release like I did with its predecessors. I'm aware that the user-generated content boom ended over a decade ago; there was a time when even inglorious series had UGC, and even though those days are long gone, I don't buy into the idea that there isn't a place for a game like LittleBigPlanet already Love for player creations in games like Minecraft, The Sims 4and others suggest as much, as does Media Molecule's niche but passionate community Dreams.
Speaking of Media Molecule, the studio behind the first two LittleBigPlanet games are currently hard at work on a new IP, which means he continues to distance himself from them LittleBigPlanet. While it's understandable that a developer as gifted as MM would want to flex his creative muscles instead of going back to his roots, LBP the brand is in desperate need of support. From LittleBigPlanet it needs Media Molecule more than Media Molecule needs it, though perhaps another studio could take over. Sumo Digital would be a logical choice as it did a solid, if not that good, job LBP 3 as well as Sackboy's Big Adventure. Alternatively, Little nightmares and Reanimate Developer Tarsier Studios could be called upon, as it turns out LBP Vita a few years ago. Regardless of who handles it, I'd love to see it LittleBigPlanet revived somehow.
A LittleBigPlanet remake could be the complete package
While only a remake of the original LBP and all his DLC levels (man i miss that Metal Gear and Marvel content) would scratch the itch, there is potential for a A remake of the God of War trilogy the approach to use for the series. This way, all of the story modes from the three main games could be included in one package, as well as crafting tools from the entire series. If that were to happen, every level could be rolled back, which feels like a must for any future entry given the shutdown of the system. LBPofficial servers. While there are fan projects like LittleBigArchive and LittleBigPlanet Union that keep the lights on for the series, the millions of incredible levels designed by the community can and should be much more accessible than they currently are.
A hypothetical LittleBigPlanet remake could include:
-
Three story modes from the numbered games.
-
All crafting tools from all three games.
-
Millions of player-created levels restored in all their glory.
-
New costumes based on PlayStation projects that were released after LBPit's time like Return successor Saros, Marvel's Wolverineand others.
-
Redesigned visuals as well as new tools built around 3D audio, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
While Sony's live service support has fewer defenders than ever after Bluepoint Games shut down, it's worth noting that LittleBigPlanet A remake that would be considered a “platform” could work as a live service project. Perhaps it could be called “LittleBigUniverse” or something along those lines, highlighting how it takes the best of each entry in the series and ties it all together. As with older games, countless costumes could be released separately for a few dollars, while a battle pass system could also be offered. I personally bought a LOT LittleBigPlanet outfits because even if I wasn't a fan of whatever franchise the costumes were pulled from, I could use those pieces for other outfits. I'd imagine many other players spent a few bucks here and there LittleBigPlanet period costumes they no longer use, so a remake could certainly be a valid option for Sony if it's dead set on games that generate long-term revenue.
A LittleBigPlanet remake seems like a pipe dream, but it's a dream I just can't let go
Yet as great as a LittleBigPlanet remake would be, there is no reason to believe it will actually happen. Permanent shutdown LBPThe servers were painfully fast because they were taken down due to the hack and never restored, meaning many didn't get a chance to save their favorite levels. The developer who created LBPThe Best Posts haven't worked on it in over a decade, and it's been five years since successor studio Sumo Digital worked on the series. The new mascot exists through Astro Botas mentioned earlier, and Shuhei Yoshida, who always vouched for the series, left PlayStation. He works against all of this LBPunfortunately, the days of Pod hangouts and PopIt builds seem to be over. I will continue to hold on to the hope that LittleBigPlanet however, it will be back because this franchise was a huge part of my pre-teen life and it will forever be special to me.
