PokemonThe 30th anniversary is both a celebration of the old and a celebration of the new. Perhaps nothing epitomizes this more than release Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen next to the revelation Pokemon winds and wavesand in those nuggets of information there is a stronger connection than most would expect.
Of course, there is much more to reveal Pokemon winds and waves. Fans have seen the name/logo; starters at Browt, Pombon and Gecqua; and a series of environmental moments to highlight his various upgrades. While names and logos are obviously important in video games, fans won't think much of it, but logos have a subtle but strong relationship to Pokemon red, blueand Green (and as such remakes Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen). Given the importance of Gen 1 and Gen 10 as numbers/anniversaries, this is something amazing.
The Pokémon Winds and Waves logos have a clear connection to Gen 1
Fans got their first real confirmation of the names at the end of Pokemon Presents where Pokemon winds and waves also revealed its 2027 release window and Nintendo Switch 2 exclusivity. It's a simple shot over the ocean that will likely play a huge role in these games. Pokemon Winds the logo is smoother and smoother to the touch than Pokemon waveswhich has more push and pull to match their themes, but colors are also important. Pokemon Winds is sea foam green while Pokemon waves it is deep blue.

Pokemon Winds has a mild link Pokemon green (or Pokemon LeafGreen), a Pokemon waves has a mild link Pokemon blue. Since the colors mattered in every generation and Game Freak probably chooses them carefully, this can't be a coincidence. Another release Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen brings Green specifically back to mind at the same time as the reveal of Gen 10 games.
Colors by generation
-
Gen 1: Red, Blue, Green and Yellow
-
Gen 2: Silver, Gold and Crystal Blue
-
Gen 3: Red, Blue and Green
-
Gen 4: Diamond Blue, Pearl Pink and Platinum Silver/white
-
Gen 5: Black and White
-
Gen 6: Blue and Red
-
Gen 7: Orange and Blue
-
Gen 8: Rose red and blue
-
Gen 9: Scarlet and Violet
-
Gen 10: Seafoam Green and Blue
While shades of blue and red are constantly appearing in the games, it's worth pointing out that there hasn't been a combination of green and blue since Gen 1 and Gen 3, with Gen 3 being related to gems (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald) rather than colors and not being the primary association. Pokemon Saw Gen 1 Red and Green release in Japan before the later Blue version came along. In North America they got young Pokemon red and Blue before Yellow as a special third edition. FireRed and LeafGreen have been remake titles all over the world, meaning everyone has been exposed to green and blue before and now years later it's again, so it's a little unifying to know that the color association is spreading across the globe.
Maybe it also deals with why Pokemon LeafGreen is a place name Pokemon Water Bluelike Game Freak, he wanted calm colors and use of imagery as opposed to the conflict inherent in it FireRed and WaterBlue. Waters from Pokemon winds and waves it definitely has a calming feel to it and that is also communicated through this color association.
either way Pokemon Gen 1 started it all and Pokemon Gen 10 is a huge milestone for the franchise. To see that the latter has not completely forgotten the former, especially when they are talking about a lot of new features Pokemon winds and waveswarms the heart. I just wish I didn't have to wait until 2027 to play them.
