Despite its relatively limited number of moves in the early levels, Abra is one of the most difficult Pokémon to catch FireRed and LeafGreen. With his only move being Teleport, which allows him to escape battles and high speed stats, trying to catch him in the wild often requires you to simply throw a Poke Ball at him and hope for the best. Fortunately, there is an easier way to get Abra inside Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen if you are willing to wait and try your luck. Here's what you need to know to catch this Psychic-type creature and how to evolve it into Kadabra and then Alakazam.

How to get Abra in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
Abra can be found on Route 24 and Route 25, both of which are directly north of Cerulean City. This means that you can find Abra in the wild relatively early on in your adventure across Kanto, but there's a slight catch.
As mentioned above, Abra can be very difficult to catch. Teleport is the only move it will know and will allow the Pokemon to escape battle once you encounter it. Due to her high speed, Abra also has a good chance to go first, making it difficult to get in an attack and weaken her before she disappears.
With that in mind, the best way to catch Abra in the wild is to use Great Ball or Ultra Ball. This may seem like overkill, but given Abra's relatively low level in the wild, it should be more than enough to catch one at full health before they have a chance to Teleport.
Alternatively, if you go to Celadon City and enter the Game Corner, you can purchase a level 9 Abra in FireRed for 180 coins and a level 7 Abra in LeafGreen for 120 coins. These coins must be won from the slots in the Game Corner itself.
Evolving Abra in Kadabro and Alakazam in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen
Abra can be evolved in Kadabr by training her up to level 16. Once she reaches level 16, the evolution animation should start after the battle. The problem is that Abra only learns Teleport through leveling. Therefore, you'll either need to teach it new moves via TM, or put it in the first position in your party to start the battle and immediately pull it out for the next Pokemon to share the EXP gained from defeating the enemy Pokemon.
To evolve Kadabra in Alakazam, you will need to trade it. To do this, go to the Pokémon Center and go up to the second floor. Now go to the Direct Corner and select the Trade Center option where you can trade Pokemon with a friend over local wireless networks.
There is no online trading in the Nintendo Switch versions of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Therefore, you will need to get together with a friend who has a version of the game.
Trade your Kadabra for a friend and have them trade for you. I would recommend that your friend also trades a Pokemon that needs to be traded to evolve like Haunter or Graveler to make it worth both of your time. You'll also both check off the evolving Pokémon in your Pokedex!
