Overwatch just announced that there will be a Double Match XP weekend every weekend in March to celebrate the game's continued success. Now, Overwatch fans have even more incentive to sign up for the heroic shooter, as if Reign of Talon Season 1 wasn't enough.
February 10 marked a new era for Earth's future. Soft reboot Overwatchnow without the “2” in the title, it featured five new heroes, a revamped user interface, and the first segment of its new year-long seasonal story. The season was a huge hit Overwatch breaking player records on both Steam and Twitch during the opening weeks.
Double Match XP weekends in Overwatch all March
Overwatch celebrates this success throughout March. According to a new post on Twitter, Blizzard has started a special “Player Reward Boost” and is giving away Double Match XP every weekend throughout March:
-
6-8 march
-
13-15 march
-
20-22 march
-
27-29 march
Double Match XP multiplies the base XP of the Battle Pass Overwatch players earn by playing games. This usually averages between 700 and 1000 XP, with more rewards for victories or longer games. Playing in a group adds an additional 20% boost, and queuing for wanted roles can also grant between 100 and 500 extra experience, all multiplied by the Double XP bonus. Those who cash in on all of these bonuses combined can easily earn over 2,000 Battle Pass XP for a single victory.
This isn't the first weekend of Double Match XP Overwatch is holding to celebrate its renewed success. From February 20th to February 23rd, Blizzard gave this bonus along with five free loot boxes. There are no additional loot boxes to claim this time around, but Double Match XP will return more often to compensate.
That means there are still a few days left to earn some extra loot boxes. Twitch Drops for Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1: Conquest is live until March 8 and offers up to 10 free loot boxes – two of which are legendary – simply by watching streams on Twitch. However, it takes 13 hours to get all these rewards; at press time, there are less than 55 hours left in the campaign, so fans who haven't started should start watching soon.
What's next for Overwatch?
currently Overwatch is in the middle of the fourth week of the Conquest event. This main game activity for Reign of Talon Season 1 allows players to team up with Overwatch or Talon to complete objectives, earn rewards and prove their loyalty. The five-week event ends on March 17, which means fans will soon see which faction will reign supreme, and subsequently which Echo skin will be awarded to all players.
Talon won weeks one and three, while Overwatch won week two and is poised to win week four, meaning the two sides will likely be tied in the final week.
Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 1 is nearing its halfway point before Season 2 begins. The mid-season update is expected to arrive on March 10th or March 17th and will bring with it a bunch of new hero balance adjustments, plus a Mythic hero skin for Mei. A new collaboration between Overwatch and Nier: Automata will also launch on March 10 and will feature Adam Lifeweaver, A2 Vendetta, 9S Wuyang, 2B Kiriko, and Commander White Mercy.
Second season OverwatchReign of Talon ends on April 14th and brings with it even more surprises. A new story arc will arrive, which may include a community event like Conquest, along with another playable hero. Post-match awards return to the game plus an official port for Switch 2. Antarctic Peninsula map reworked, Ramattra added to the stadium and Overwatch 10-year anniversaries are just some of the other features that fans can expect in this upcoming update.
