Over the past few years, as audience interest in moviegoing among younger demographics has waned considerably even in the post-pandemic era, distributors have found some measure of real success in the nature of collectible popcorn buckets that are social media savvy and full of FOMO. (There were even a few buckets of popcorn available in theaters to celebrate the upcoming video games.)
The latest in a long line of movie snack packaging arrives just in time for The Super Mario Galaxy, which opens on April 1st.
Oh, it's egg-shaped
Announced via social media in the tweet above, AMC Theaters has unveiled a Yoshi Popcorn Bucket aptly named “Yoshi's Popcorn Bucket.” AMC invites us all to “collect one of the brightest characters in the universe” and I have to tell you, I'm not much of a collector, but is one cute case of heat-cracked cores.
The egg is adorable, even if it looks a little clunky in practice, having the cracked part of the shell serve as a conduit for the popcorn itself is kind of a stroke of genius. It is an inclined groove to promote comfortable chewing. I'm curious about it in practice and I'm also interested in the price. 10 dollars? 25 dollars? 50 dollars? People will pay, be sure; which means the rest of us will have to consider doing the same.
Collaborations on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie predictably pop up elsewhere, too. Uniqlo, for example, has a clothing line, and there's no doubt that Nintendo will have more to reveal in the coming days. On Monday, the Big N will reveal the film's final trailer in another dedicated Nintendo Direct, so we may see more merch spread there.
We'll never get a remake of Final Fantasy 8, but this mod gives the original an amazing makeover
A few promising new screenshots reveal the ambitions of this mod project.
