How to start and complete Alvida's first side quest in GreedFall 2: The Dying World

After the prologue in GreedFall: The Dying Worldone of the first companions to join your party is Alvida. However, circumstances will drag you away from her when you reach a safe destination, and you won't get her back into your party until you deal with it.

Once she's back on the team, you'll get a chance to start her first joint quest, Heritage of the Sea. There are many ways to approach this and it's possible to miss it completely, so here's how to beat the quest and get more approval from Alvida.

How to start Alvida's Companion Quest

He is talking to Alvida on his ship, who is about to accept his personal quest in GreedFall The Dying World

After Alvida's trial, regardless of the outcome, Silvio the Carpenter offers her information about her deceased mother. But he doesn't want to talk about it there and says they can talk later.

Don't assume this means he wants you to meet him at his shop in the marketplace; he will be there but he has nothing to say. Instead, go to the pub and approach the table where Alvida is sitting.

This will start a conversation between the player, Silvia and Alvida. Here, Silvio explains that since Alvida's new ship used to belong to her mother, there should be a hidden compartment containing her journal.

It's true that Alvida finds her mother's diary when you board the ship. From there, she will ask you to help her track down someone who can crack the code her mother wrote.

As with any side quest, accepting this one locks you in to having Alvida in your party until you complete it. You can only start one companion quest at a time.

Return to Uxantis

You are approaching a large door with guards in GreedFall The Dying World

The first step of the quest involves going nowhere at all. Alvida wants to ask about the journal, which includes a conversation with the admiral in Uxantis. I only had to talk to one, the one closest to the bottom half of the map. He turned out to be Alvida's father, so there was some extra dialogue.

It will point you in the direction of the library, so follow the marker on the map there. Talk to the man behind the counter and he'll agree that it's written in a code he can't crack in any hurry. Instead, he directs you to try to find someone from Alvida's mother's past who may be familiar with the code she used.

Sail to Olima and find Alma

Fight in GreedFall The Dying World. Several characters are seen fighting, with several abilities selected on the bar at the bottom of the screen

The woman you are looking for is Alma, a nautka who moved to Olima. Sail out there and start looking for her location.

If you haven't completed the main story quest Kuraz's plan still then the guards in Olima will be hostile to you. Moreover, if it is your first time in Olima, you will recognized from your wanted posters by the man in the docks and potentially attacked. Bring Safia with you to talk to your attacker.

You have several ideas for this, but the quick and easy way is talk to the barman at the pub and give him the cleansing potion for his hangover. It will then tell you where to find Alma and update your map.

Follow the marker on the map to Alma's house. There will be Bridge Alliance guards outside trying to detain her. Go ahead and start a conversation. All dialogue options will result in combatbut with Alvida you get different gains/losses from approval.

  • Ask the soldiers for information about the operation: No change in approval.
  • Attack the soldiers: +1 approval with Alvida.
  • Let the soldiers take Alma: -2 agree with Alvida (Alvida will start a fight with the soldiers anyway, making them hostile towards you as well).
Talk to naut in GreedFall The Dying World. He reveals that he was sent to keep Alvida safe

During the fight, another naut will come to your aid. Once the fight is over, they reveal that they were sent by Alvida's father to keep her safe. Alvida is not happy with this. Then you have the option to either support the bodyguard, send him away, or let Alvida make her own decision. With Alvida, you get +2 consent if you let her decide.

Escort Alma to safety

Alma will be shaken but safe—but not for long. She will need to be escorted back to the ship to look at the logbook. This includes going with her every step of the way and not being able to fast travel.

If you want, you can tell Alma to stay put for now and go ahead and fight any of the guards that get in your way, or pick up more potions if you think you need them. Otherwise, tell her to follow you now and fight them while she's there, or sneak past them completely.

Your companions should have a voice line when you are about to walk down the street with the guards. If not, watch out for a bunch of targetable NPCs standing in one place.

Once you arrive at your ship at the docks, Alma is safe. You have the option to board immediately and discuss the journal with her, or explore more of Olima with the rest of your party first.
