One Diablo 4 class gets the short end of the stick in Season 12

As Diablo 4 players are preparing for the start of the Season of Slaughter and deciding which class to play is the first stop on their journey after Season 12. This new season is set to feature some interesting mechanics such as the return of Killstreaks from Diablo 3 and the ability to transform into a butcher and dive into the slaughterhouse. However, there is one Diablo 4 a class that players may want to avoid in Season 12 if they want to take full advantage of the seasonal mechanics on offer.

Diablo 4 Season 12 comes at a pivotal time in the game's life, sandwiched between the release of the Paladin class in Season 11 and serving as the final season before the release of the Lord of Hatred expansion and an overhaul of many of the game's core systems. Despite this seeming lull, players still have a great reason to check out Season of Slaughter, especially with Diablo 4 pass with Doom: The Dark Ages. With many players likely waiting to experience Warlock in Lord of Hatred, Necromancer may be a popular pick in Season 12 as it also puts an emphasis on minion summoning. Playing as a necromancer Diablo 4 Season 12 may be a mistake as there are much better build options this season.

Diablo 4 Season 12 is also offering a Paladin free trial from March 11th to March 18th, so players who haven't purchased Lord of Hatred yet may want to get started with this class while they can.

How Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred's Warlock Compares to Diablo 2: Resurrected's

While the Warlock is slated to appear in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred after debuting in Diablo 2: Resurrected, the class takes on a somewhat different form.

Necromancers may battle for competition in Diablo 4 Season 12

Historically, the Necromancer has been one of the most reliable options Diablo 4 builds season after season. Players will usually find one or two solid Necromancer builds for a given season Diablo 4with several options being completely unviable. However, the Necromancer doesn't get many useful new tools in his set for Season of Slaughter, and his playstyle doesn't seem to have much synergy with the Killstreak mechanic that's expected to inform most meta builds in the new season.

The new Diablo 4 Season 12 uniques won't move the needle much for necromancers

  • Blood-Mad Idol – Unique Amulet (All Classes)

  • Mark of Wendigo – Unique Ring (All Classes)

  • Rustbitten Dirk — Unique Dagger (Wizard, Druid, Rogue, Necromancer)

  • Wyrdskin — Unique Gloves (all classes

  • Thousand-Eye Reaver — Unique One-Handed Ax (Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Paladin)

Despite having access to each new unique in Diablo 4 There aren't many Necromancer builds in Season 12 that can really make use of them. Sure, Uniques like Wendigo Brand and Wyrdskin can be solid choices for almost everyone Diablo 4 build, but does not necessarily provide synergy with necromancer building pillars. Thousand-Eye Reaver could be a decent choice for Necromancers looking to boost attack speed with Ferocity stacks, but there are probably better build-specific Uniques like Gravebloom for Golem Necromancers or Bloodless Scream for Bloodwave Necromancers.

The Season of Slaughter's Killstreaks favor a faster and more aggressive play style

The greatest strike against necromancers in Diablo 4 Season 12 is the playstyle of this class, which is very much at odds with the season's emphasis on quick and efficient kills and building a Killstreak. Necromancer builds tend to come in two different flavors: dealing damage over time to a large group or dealing bulk damage to a single target. Builds like Minion Necromancer and Shadowblight Necromancer excel at keeping the class alive and limiting enemies for the player to finish off, but they do so more slowly than other classes. On the other hand, builds like Bone Spear Necromancer and Blood Wave Necromancer are fantastic for combat. Diablo 4's Lair Bosses as they focus on boosting single target skills to maximize damage against powerful enemies like bosses.

Unfortunately, neither of these player styles are suited to the mechanics of Bloodied weapons and their effects that trigger Killstreaks in Diablo 4 Season 12. Compared to classes like Barbarian, Rogue, and Spiritborn, who can all deal serious damage with great movement speed, the Necromancer will likely struggle to carve out a niche in Season of Slaughter.
