In a recent interview on the PlayStation Blog Invincible VSExecutive producer Mike Willette explained that the upcoming open beta will be “focused on online play and ranked play”. According to Willette, after completing the tutorial and practice mode, players will be fighting for some placement matches. They can then be pitted against fans of a similar level and skill level in ranked mode. In addition to the 10 playable characters, the open beta will feature six location arenas, some inspired by the animated show, such as Ka-Hor's Tomb. This is worth noting Invincible VS will feature 18 characters once it officially hits shelves, so the open beta will allow players to try out more than half of the base game's roster.

While the open beta features several popular superheroes from Invincible universe, does not include Ella Mental. The heroine is a brand new character debuting on Invincible VS with her own unique background story. Ella Mental's design had input from Invincible creators Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker and can use various elements in combat. Invincible VS also confirmed Dupli-Kate, Powerplex, Cecil and Viltrumite soldiers Anissa and Lucan as part of the roster. There are still two more characters that have yet to be revealed, but the developers will likely reveal them in the coming weeks.
