Everything you need to know about the set rotation at Disney Lorcan

Disney's Lorcan introduced a rotation of sets to the Core Constructed format at the end of 2025 as a way to handle the influx of cards coming with each new expansion. This was a huge shakeup for Lorcana and her meta, but don't worry as it's a completely normal process that has been adopted by many of the biggest TCGs in the industry.

However, if you want to make sure you're not caught playing illegal cards in competitive games, or just want to know how deck rotation works in Disney Lorcana, we've got you covered.

What is a Lorcan set rotation?

Set rotation is when older kits leave the Core Constructed format. This format is Disney Lorcan's alternative to Standard in Magic: The Gathering.

Every fall, with launch third set of calendar year, the four oldest sets are removed from the format and it is no longer legal to play. This means there must be four sets of cards each year removed from your packages to ensure they are still in current rotation.

There are several reasons why set rotation is a part of many TCGs:

  • Set rotation keeps the game balanced by ensuring that older cards, potentially overmatched combos, and even design flaws eventually leave the game.
  • This makes the game more accessible to newer players who won't have to catch up on years of missed products.
  • Naturally, set rotation also encourages buying new sets as soon as they are released.

Playing With Older Cards

Fortunately, rotating a set doesn't mean your older cards become worthlessbecause casual play, house rules, and extended formats allow you to keep older cards in play. They are also great for collecting and you can keep track of your collection with collector guides.

Also, if the card was reprinted as part of a new, legal setyou can play no copy of it, including those you downloaded from older packages. For example, Stitch, The Rock Star it was first printed in Chapter One before being reprinted in Fabled. While The First Chapter itself will rotate from Core Constructed, The The Stitch, Rock Star card can still be played.

The second way is to play Infinite format. Infinite is an eternal, non-rotating format, which means you can play any cards ever printed for Lorcanaprovided they have not been separately prohibited. Infinite is a higher performance format because it allows for strategies that have long been swapped out of Core Constructed, so you can still play with your favorite Disney Lorcan decks and cards.
