In Japan, Shonen Jump is easily the largest manga magazine and has seen the rise of many iconic series over the years, including the likes of Dragon Ball, One Piece, Narutoand many others. But now the magazine's golden age seems to be coming to an end. In 2024 Shonen Jump lost Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academianow in 2026 Man with a chainsaw part 2as well as Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo also closed. Shonen Jump might be in big trouble, but it might also be the perfect opportunity for a new series to shine.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 gets a disappointing update for part 2
JJK Season 3 has received a massive update that could lead to a massive downgrade for Part 2.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo And Chainsaw Man End Back to Back
The past few weeks have definitely been quite disappointing for Shonen Jump. First, it was revealed last month that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the successful sequel to the original JJK series, will receive three back-to-back color covers in Weekly Shonen Jump. Fans were excited, but of course there was a major concern that the streak was coming to an end. In fact, this proved to be true when Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Chapter 25 was revealed to be the last in the series.
Fans were sad to see Modulo go, especially in such a hasty fashion, but what's worse is that another iconic Shonen Jump manga announced its end this week as well, Man with a chainsaw part 2. Chainsaw Man isn't known for suddenly announcing its final chapters, so this definitely caught fans by surprise. This was especially surprising since it didn't really feel like the manga was coming to an end. Regardless, this week will mark the end of Chainsaw Man Part 2.
How this loss of two big franchises affects the magazine
Shonen Jump is losing massive series one after another. With an ending like Modulo and Chainsaw Man, it would definitely seem like the magazine isn't what it used to be. In addition to the conclusion of Modulo and Chainsaw Man Part 2, fans also have to remember that two other massive series that the magazine in 2010 and 2020 also ended, Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia, less than two years ago. At the moment, it can be said that the only major series that Shonen Jump has under its belt is One Piece, which has been continuously serialized regularly since 1997 and now stands as the last pillar for Shonen Jump.
How Gege Akutami and Fujimoto could return in the future
While Chainsaw Man Part 2 and Jujutsu Kaisen both ended back-to-back, that doesn't mean the two franchises are now dead. As for JJK Modulo, the editor working on the series made a statement asking fans to look forward to the next project from Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki. In that sense, it definitely seems to hint at a new Jujutsu Kaisen project, made even more likely by how Modulo ended, with huge potential for a new series that could be set 300 years in the future.

On the other hand, while Chainsaw Man Part 2 is ending, there is a strong possibility that Fujimoto's manga will return for Part 3, simply based on the fact that the conclusion seems open. It's unknown what Chainsaw Man Part 3 will cover, or if it's even happening. But it's definitely a possibility, seeing how rushed the 2nd part was with its ending. Fans could look forward to the return of these iconic series with new storylines and new characters.

Why a new generation must step up to fill the void
While endings like Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo and Chainsaw Man Part 2 are unfortunate, that's not necessarily a bad thing for Shonen Jump. With the end of a great series, space opens up for newer series to shine. Shonen Jump could see the rise of new hit series and it's the perfect time for new writers to come in and replace those who just left.
At the moment, the two most popular manga series of the new generation seem to be Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch. With fewer old and established series, more fans might be interested in trying out these newer manga.
