Remember last year, just before the world 47 started burning, when a Cheeto that looked like the Pokémon Charizard became famous on the Internet and was nicknamed “Cheetozard”? For some reason, you'll also remember that that single token sold at auction for $87,840 (£69,806 / €84,653) – an obscene amount of money for a spicy piece of corn.
But it turns out that $87,000 won its buyer more than just a special Charizard Cheeto, as they just entered the Guinness Book of World Records.
The Cheetozard Cheeto just earned its buyer a Guinness World Record
The anonymous buyer of Cheetozard (although his photos are out there…) was just presented with a certificate confirming their Guinness World Record for “highest price paid for a corn snack in video game form.” The certificate reads:
“The highest price paid for a corn snack in video game form is $87,840 (£69,806) for a 'Cheetozard', a Cheeto in the shape of the iconic Pokémon Charizard, sold by Goldin on March 2, 2025.
The official Guinness World Records site states that the 3-inch chip was mounted on a custom Pokemon card bearing the name Cheetozard and was “enclosed in a special translucent box in case any viewers get too hungry.” Apparently, the chip is “so fun and unique” because it “bridges two fandoms—Pokémon and Cheetos,” the latter of which is a fandom I never knew existed.
A perfect order might just be the tonic for the current Pokemon TCG Hype
Perfect Order might not be the best Pokémon TCG expansion, but it could help cool things down before the 30th anniversary.
The chip made a healthy profit for its original buyer, who bought it for $350 before encapsulating it sometime between 2018 and 2022.
An extremely specific record brings the bizarre Cheeto saga to a close, at least for now. Goldin, the auction house that sold Cheetozard, has another Pokémon-shaped Cheeto ready. Pikacheeto, is a Cheeto in the shape of none other than Pikachu, again mounted on its own card. The auction doesn't have a start date yet, but it's set to start at $500 and likely go much, much higher.
This is the second Pokemon world record in recent times. Logan Paul's infamous PSA 10 Illustrator Pikachu was sold at auction last month for over $16 million, showing the world that people are willing to drop silly bucks to ensure that Catch 'em All.
